I think the same front regen/braking bias applies when in reverse too. We have a steep driveway and when backing down under super-slippery conditions it feels like the front wheels lock up and the front end starts swinging around. Scary as I've never had this happen with any other vehicle...
"This caused some pucker factor for me in "All Purpose" mode, as this mode typically biases the regen entirely to the front. My fear was that this was going to cause the vehicle to "plow", reducing steering."
I've noticed that even in "Snow" mode the regen is biased entirely to the front below...
Chiming in as a member who only has a Quad! Except to agree wholeheartedly with what you've been saying. I've experienced firsthand the vehicle losing grip and sliding while driving slowly on a road with a cross slope in super-slippery conditions. I say super-slippery as winter driving has such...
I have learned a lot from your explanations, thank you! I've done some experimenting with the Rivian driving on extremely slippery surfaces and it's disconcerting to say the least to have the whole vehicle slide due to even mild regen and the the camber of the road. At low speeds I've found...
Yes, I think there is a chime. But it doesn't let you know when regen returns other than maybe that tiny little snowflake above the range disappears. For me it happens several times on the drive back to Bend.
Glad you're okay Rob! To add to the excitement on the drive back from Mt. Bachelor to Bend it's difficult to know if you're going to have regen or not. A message pops up and disappears every once in a while "Acceleration and regen braking reduced until battery warms up" leaving a tiny little...
Did you try it in neutral? That is what works for me. We have a steep driveway (shorter than yours) and I put in in neutral and use the brakes to back down. Easier to control than feathering the 'throttle'. The first time I attempted to back down the driveway when it was slippery I let...
Last night was super-slippery here in Bend. I spent some time experimenting, driving around slowly on hilly side streets. Coming to a stop using regen was uncontrollable. The wheels locked up so the vehicle couldn't be steered and the whole vehicle would slide depending on the camber of the...
Yes! I find putting it in neutral and modulating the brakes is the only way to control the R1T on a super-slippery surface. The regen is just too strong, locks the wheels so you can't steer and the whole vehicle slides depending on the camber of the road. I wish there was a way to just turn...
Yes! I was out Wednesday morning in Bend and it was super icy. On that steep little downhill eastbound on Portland from College Way the 20" A/Ts and regen worked well to slow the Rivian to a crawl without locking any wheels and maintain full control. I could feel some slippage but I was impressed.
Yesterday my guide said switching to BM would speed up my order. I said I would stick with OC. Later in the conversation I asked my guide to speculate when the delivery would be and my guide didn't know but guessed it would still be around the end of April. Probably just speculation on the...
