Terrific vehicle aside from the battery limitations. Would probably have stuck it out if not for an incredible Carvana offer. Will miss split tailgate, frunk, matrix headlights and uniquely convenient/well designed cargo bar attach method.
I experienced charging speeds similar to my past Tesla experience (>200kW) on a road trip (all Superchargers) last summer. More charging time based on the lower per mile efficiency of the R1S, but charging experience was great. Did learn to keep HVAC off while charging (temps were high 80s with...
Helpful - thanks. I have a Carvana offer that would take me out just under what I paid last June (terrific 2Q25 incentives), which I am very tempted to take. That said, struggling to find a replacement that will be enjoyable to drive and somewhat economically justifiable. EV9 has terrible...
Curious how long you supercharged and how long you preconditioned ahead of time? Wondering if LFP packs max at a much lower charge speed in the winter because the car cannot get the battery temp up? I maxed at 60 kW the one time I supercharged (20 minutes of charging after 15-20 minutes of...
I warm cabin/seats ahead of time always, and sometimes have it plugged in (and charging/warming) ahead of a drive when I need the range. Mostly curious about apples to apples LFP vs. NMC.
I am in your area and own a Gen 2 LFP R1S that I bought last summer. Recent cold has been a challenge, though the longest we really need to go is 40 miles or so.
Based on the 92 kWh theoretically available capacity (had that regularly in warmer weather; have not been above ~87 in this cold)...
I knew that coming in, and am generally happy with my purchase decision. Just trying to learn more specifics about how/why LFP underperforms NMC in cold weather as implemented by Rivian in the Gen 2 R1S. Thanks.
Thanks for the link. I have read similar summaries, and they are always helpful.
That said, what I am specifically wondering about is LFP vs. NMC based on the way that Rivian implements and manages battery temps in the Gen 2 R1S.
For example, if I am averaging 1.8 miles/kWh in 20 degree...
Hey all-
Curious about whether there is a driving efficiency difference (miles/kWh) between the Gen 2 Dual Standard (LFP) battery and the Gen 2 Max (NMC) battery in cold weather.
I realize that there is a range difference based on the different kWh sizes of the two batteries, but wondering if...
I am probably getting ~2.0 overall this winter. Not on the highway going 75-80 when it is 6 degrees outside, though. That is more like 1.5. I am running the OEM, 20” all seasons that came standard on the 2025 DS.
Interesting - thanks. This is the first text I have received, though I did get the email below on 11/24/2025. Perhaps I did not successfully hit the “as frequently as possible” threshold that was requested in the email.
I have noticed that our battery capacity since cold weather arrived has been in the 87 kWh range (~240 miles, down from as expected ~92.5 kWh (259 miles) in warmer temps) when charged to 100%, though I have read that usable capacity declines with the NMC packs in the cold as well. Curious about...
Our R1S LFP experience has generally been good, though winter range (and L3 charge speed) has been worse than our experience with the 2021 Model Y. Still trying to determine how much worse, but on a really cold day we are getting ~1.5 miles/kWh doing 75-80.
Have only had to L3 charge once in...
I got the below text from Rivian yesterday. A bit odd to me since I have charged to 100% 5-7 times since installing 2025.46.0 a month ago (seems like that should have been enough to calibrate?), but so it goes. Anyone else get this?
