I don't think it's just about the R1T or R1S but the adventure theme is deep in the company's broader goals. You can see it in the modular swappable tops and the self driving guided tours that RJ talked about. I don't blame them, they're trying to carve out a niche in an increasingly crowded...
Timing and logistics aside if they are one and the same, or at least working together, why would they not leverage the Apple name instead of going with Rivian?
It's one of the most recognizable brands in the world and would instantly catapult them on par with or above Tesla in terms of name...
Jeep already has a PHEV Wrangler coming in a year or two I believe the rumors are saying. I'm sure they hav plans for a fully electric one some time down the road. That said they could sure use less competition, they've been coasting for years without any real threat but now with Rivian and...
The patent describes it a little albeit somewhat light on details, but it sounds like it's all built in to the module. Probably partially why it's so large too.
"The auxiliary battery module includes an integrated cooling system for cooling itself during operation of the electric vehicle...
Good point. I think you're probably right. I would love to see them make a true sports car (not just an EV sedan or coupe) maybe something to take on Porsche's upcoming Taycan?
BTW did you know that the front DRL light bar doubles as a charge level indicator? It'll light up green while the Rivian is charging and will move based on the % charged. So cool.
Fully charged status:
I've yet to see an image or video of the DRL light strip off while the Rivian models are driving. Of course that doesn't mean we won't have the option to turn them off in settings, but just haven't seen it done yet. Nor have I read anything from Rivian about being able to turn them off.
Even though I love and drive one, I think Rivian should stay away from sports cars from a business perspective. They're usually among the least profitable models for a car company due to development costs and low sales numbers. Companies used to produce them because they serve as halo models to...
Thanks! It sounds like when your number is up you can just configure whichever vehicle you want. I'm sort of hoping if you decide to switch to the R1S you can configure it even if it's not officially available yet.
I've seen the Model X slip on sunscreen visor and I don't think that would work for a window panel this large. It would likely sag in the middle.
Best method of providing extra sun protection would be if they made a built in screen that can be open/closed fully or partially with the push of a...
Daphne, I saw your post in the other thread about switching orders. Here's a question - what happens if you preorder a R1T and when it gets to your number in line you want to switch to R1S but it's not available yet? Do you automatically get put at the front of the R1S line based on the date you...
For a lot of the truck specific parts it doesn't really matter whether it's a gas engine or electric so I would guess if it sells in good numbers some traditional aftermarket companies geared towards trucks will take interest.
I think it will take a while, and not just for schematics and...
Good aftermarket support will make all the difference. OEM accessories are welcomed but when it comes to offroading as Jeep has shown it is all about the after market. I hope to see a lot of options for rock rails, bumpers, winch, etc.
It says "Electric Vehicles" so I would think both R1T and R1S will be there. It seems they've been rolling out the truck and this is the kind of venue for it. No knock on the R1S but a SUV doesn't exactly scream adventure.
Cool video, nice work! I hadn't seen some of that footage and it was nicely put together. It'll be interesting to see how they start advertising the R1T when the time comes. A few of their teaser videos were pretty high quality so good signs.
Climbing gym?? Interesting. Im not on twitter. What did they say? Hope to see some pictures if media were invited.
Darnit. I would think CES would be a good venue to show it. Hopes of seeing it in upcoming auto shows look slim now.
I assume Rivian will have a presence at the Detroit show coming up. Has anyone heard whether it will the R1T will be brought to every major auto show?
I plan to go to the NY show in April and hope to see it in person then.
