Definitely adding the spare. We spend a lot of time in remote areas with no cell service (though satellite is helping for that) and far away from any tire shops. My wife and daughter got a blowout in her Tesla (no spare offered) in an area like that and fortunately, a passerby called the...
I had a lot of the same observations and one of the reasons why I am still driving my LE Gen 1 Quad R1T. I kind of like the whirl of the Bosch motors vs. the nearly silent Tri-motors. I know the Tri-motor is quicker to 60, but it just did not feel as quick. Audio system was a downgrade. Did...
3 1/2 years in on a Gen 1 R1T, with just under 50,000 miles. Best car I've owned by a mile. Original 12V, Tonneau still works. I had a leaky strut on the hood that was replaced by an awesome mobile tech in my driveway. Unlocks when I walk up, locks when I walk away. Software is super...
I have an R1T. My wife has an Tesla Model X. She'd have a Rivian already, but she wants to downsize, so we're waiting for the R2 to be out. We also have a Wrangler as a third car that will likely be replaced by an R3X whenever that comes out. So, eventually...
I had to reauthenticate in the app once (in 2 1/2 years of owning my Rivian). It was also at an inconvenient time, but since it's a safety/security feature, I didn't think of it being a safety/security liability. As others have said, the easy solution if this is a major concern for you is to...
I don’t think those Tesla Superchargers, which are older chargers, are compatible with CCS vehicles. Tesla has added other newer Superchargers in the area, so I’m not sure when, if ever, they’ll get around to updating those. Makes the RAN station next store a really great location.
that looks like a great set up. I was thinking about a tire dolly and a floor jack. The bottle jack is not perfect since the truck pivots a little at the height needed for tire changes, which means you’ll always have a little angle at full extension. A floor jack seems to be the better way to go.
When I do tire changes/rotations, I use a standard jack stand just as an extra safety device - I put it under one of the control arms of the suspension while I change the tire and leave the Rivian on the jack. Not sure if that’s the best way to do it, but it has worked and have not felt the need...
This is great! Will be there on 12/26 and will definitely check them out.
There are older Tesla Superchargers next door near the Aviation Mall that are not compatible with CCS. I'm guessing that's why Rivian went ahead with this installation.
Amazing story. My R1T is the best vehicle I've owned and I love driving it every day. I also love the mission that RJ and the company are on. But the Rivian community is just awesome and such a great part of ownership.
Yes, only on a scheduled charge. Some electric utilities have time of use pricing, so depending on when you schedule the vehicle to precondition, you might prefer to pull the energy from the battery vs. the grid.
Eh. I think this is very true, but I also think it's a lot of that sentiment is overblown and sensationalized. The truck has, say, 300 miles of range in ambient temps above freezing. Below freezing, it drops a bit, maybe 10-15%. Below -10 degrees it drops more. But if you're doing a 100 mile...
Range drops precipitously in extreme cold (below 10 degree F). Keep an eye on your consumption and make sure you drive economically. Don't let it get too low. But honestly, above zero degrees, range will be less but not dramatically less.
Precondition the cabin while plugged in before you...
