The LTE included in the Fenix 8 Pro is very targeted; that is, it functions specifically for cellular data only for messaging, and lacks the processing power to handle something like the Rivian app.
In theory, the Garmin Wallet could potentially be leveraged for NFC use, but that would also...
Garmin watches lack the necessary radios/chipset for this sort of functionality. That's what contributes to their outstanding battery life. I've been using Garmin watches for 20 years, racing triathlon for 15. Their outstanding at what they do, but they're rubbish at being a "real" smart watch...
This is one of my debating points as well...it seems like the longer wheelbase makes a difference in ride quality. Also, I'm used to a pickup cab...the few times I've driven an SUV, it seems louder because of the increased cabin space...
We put too many miles on our vehicles to do a lease...we only ever have one vehicle at a time, and drive way more than most leases have the option for (~23K miles on our 17 month old Lightning). :D
Awesome, thanks for the update! My wife and I will probably head up there on Saturday and meet some Rivian-enthusiast friends (not current owners, but R2 pre-order holders).
Maybe the exposure will inspire my wife to let me start the trade-in process of our Lightning against and R1S dual...
Excellent!! Been putting off a demo drive so I don't have to drive downtown but can come here instead. :D
Edit: and thanks for the updates and pictures!
I'm putting off a demo drive (clearly not in a hurry to buy, my Lightning is doing just fine, I've always just liked the Rivian vehicles and our next vehicle will be an SUV) until this is open because I don't want to deal with driving in downtown Portland any more than absolutely necessary. :D
Has anyone seen any info/specs/crystal ball info on what (if anything) the R2 will not get from the R1S? For example, will heated and ventilated seats be available? Heated steering wheel? The new electrochromic glass roof?
Basically, in my ideal world, the R2 will have all the features of an...
Awesome, thanks for the follow-up info! Super excited about the R2 as a potential replacement for my Lightning (I don't do enough "truck stuff" with it, and would like something smaller). :)
Hoping to go up there the afternoon of the 13th and check it out (have an R2 reservation from day-one). Bridgeport isn't too hard to get to for me, so that should be fine. I haven't seen any date changes per their Instagram...where was that posted?
My Lightning does this...no solution that I've found. I just adjust the volume manually when I get back into the house. Annoying, but there are worse things. :)
