  1. Nashville R2 Block Party pics: Launch Green, Crystal Cove, Midnight Black

I don’t think this is strange at all. Remember that all of these vehicles have ownership attached to them. They’re worth tens of thousands of dollars. It makes sense for the marketing folks to ā€œownā€ a few prototypes for marketing purposes. Prototypes are rarely perfect, which is why they...
  2. R1S / R1T Outdoor Car Cover now in Rivian Gear Shop (May 2026)

I put a cover on our daily driver when an ice storm was forecast for a couple of years. It was a $50 problem, though, not a $500 problem.
  3. Power usage of autonomy

After my experiences either FSD in my Model Y, I’m anti-sold on autonomy as a concept. I’ll follow what Rivian is doing, their more thoughtful approach is better than Tesla’s approach. But I’m not counting any of these chickens before they hatch. There’s no reason to think there won’t be...
  4. R2 LIDAR Availability

We bought a used 1st-Gen R1S without the expectation of self-driving capabilities. Why? We previously had a Tesla Model Y, and our experiences with Tesla’s ā€œFull Self Driving (supervised)ā€ system was not good. We ended up fighting with Autopilot a lot, and we found FSD to be dangerously...
  5. While other blur, we make it CLEAR!

Yes. All you have to do to activate the factory dashcam is to plug in a USB-C storage device and push a couple of buttons on the screen. It’s pretty similar to Tesla’s built-in dashcam. It also includes ā€œGear Guardā€, which is analogous to Tesla’s ā€œSentry Mode.ā€ The value-proposition of your...
  6. Has anyone Towed a trailer, boat, camper with their new R1T?

I see a 50% range-loss (MPG loss) when towing my travel trailer with my hybrid-powered ICE truck. I don't see why the losses would be any lower on an EV, because the trailer takes the same amount of ∫drag/dt to move. My travel trailer has the aerodynamics of a garden shed. A more efficient...
  7. (UPDATED) My review: I got behind the wheel of R1T and here are the details if you are interested!

I didn't perceive them as rude. My read was that the plan for the event put them in a bit of a bind, which lead to some mutual frustration. But, overall, things went pretty well and they got this truck in front of the public. Hopefully they'll adjust their plan for future events, when possible.
  8. (UPDATED) My review: I got behind the wheel of R1T and here are the details if you are interested!

There was no standby list at the event in Normal on Sunday. The rides were for reservation holders only. The unfortunate folks manning the ride-booth had to answer this question every couple of minutes. People who feel like they can afford $67k-$80k vehicle didn't like being told they weren't...
