Roger I have a Rivian Charger at home and an EVDANCE charger at a second home. I bought the EVDANCE in 2024 and it is mounted on a fence and exposed to the elements since then. I've been very happy with the EVDANCE and it is very well priced on Amazon. I found the NACS Connector version of my...
I own a Gen 1 R1S with 25,000 miles on it. I absolutely love it. It ticks all of the boxes: fast, beautiful, high utility, good ride, lots of room, off road capable, etc. The only problems I have had had to do with the auto closing on my frunk and tailgate (adjustments needed) and the...
I’ve got 25,000 miles on my Gen 1 R1S and my ocean coast interior is holding up well. It’s very durable and easy to clean. I live in Virginia and it can get very hot in the summer. The lighter color is much cooler in the than black.
I would absolutely buy another. I have an R1S gen 1 with 25,000 miles. It’s first EV and the best car I have ever owned, and I’ve owned a lot of really good cars in my life. In fact, I plan on buying an R2 for my wife when the Lidar version comes out.
Here’s what the experts say the difference in hardware costs in a Tesla, Rivian R2 and a Waymo:
System
Sensors
Estimated Hardware Cost
Tesla (Vision only)
Cameras only
$100 -$300
Rivian (Fusion)
Cameras + radar + lidar
$500 - $2,000
Waymo (Robotaxi)
Cameras + radar + multiple...
There is no doubt that adding radar and lidar makes self driving safer- particularly in bad weather and low light environments.
These decisions all boil down to cost. Tesla’s camera only hardware is much cheaper than adding both radar and lidar. That being said, both radar and, especially...

I agree that Tesla increasingly looks unfocused. Today, roughly 80–85% of its revenue still comes from EV sales, with software (FSD) contributing about 5–10% and energy (battery storage) around 10%. Meanwhile, robotaxis and robotics generate essentially zero revenue. In other words, the entire...
Looks like Tesla's big bet on cameras only and no lidar/radar is coming under scrutiny. Enormous strategic blunder?

Both my rear gate and my frunk auto closers would not close properly about 6 months after purchase. Required adjustments- twice. The sensor for my auto wipers failed after about 12 months. It was replaced. Fit of body panels are not the best. They are replacing my 12v battery this week...
I went on the App and submitted a comment under “share feedback” that said there is a bug. I would suggest everyone do the same. Maybe Rivian will pick up on it and fix it in the next update.
My center screen is sporadically flickering when on Tune-In and sometimes on iTunes. I have a 2023 R1S. Anyone else having this trouble? I’m concerned that it may be a hardware issue. I’ve attached a video.
Thank you. I wasn’t sure what to search for even though I tried. It sounds like Rivian knows what we want but they haven’t acted on it. Until they are able to scale; they have to pick their priorities. Nice to have must wait until must have. I hope that R2 is the ticket to scale. I’m looking...
Has Rivian ever talked about enabling their cars to share power back to your house in the event of a power outage? It sure would be great to have that feature in the event of a short term outage.
