  1. WSJ story/cautionary tale on self driving/Driver + comparo

The issue is that some of the car's movements when the system malfunctions are quite abrupt and startling. One ends up reacting both to the overall circumstances on the road, and to the car's erroneous reaction. Depending on the cognitive load on the driver it could be too much for short...
  2. WSJ story/cautionary tale on self driving/Driver + comparo

That is exactly what happened to me. I had no problems until the latest sw update btw.
  3. WSJ story/cautionary tale on self driving/Driver + comparo

The WSJ had a pretty disturbing story today on the limitations of Tesla's camera -based self driving tech. For those who subscribe to the WSJ this is the link: The Hidden Autopilot Data That Reveals Why Teslas Crash...
  4. R1S no longer routing on I-66 in Nova?

What is nuts is that Driver+ is sort of working on the GW Parkway, which is a chaotic shape-shifty disaster with the construction. I noticed it worked by accident when trying to set just cruise control. I can't think of seeing anything more crazy or dangerous in the US than the traffic...
  5. Finally found a fix to my driver's side wind noise: Rubber Cord Seal Weatherstripping

If anyone has a Gen 2 Rivian, it would be interesting to see if the door seals have changed.
  6. R1s Ride Comfort between AT and 22s

I should add I never go off road (except when I come into the driveway too fast and take out the begonias). I do have the underbody shielding which is ridiculous for me.
  7. R1s Ride Comfort between AT and 22s

Yes, the car came with the 20ATs. Bc I was one of the early deposit folks there was no upcharge for the off-road wheels and I wanted the forged rims and ability to buy 20 inch tires.
  8. Rivian Scale Model Cars Coming Soon ?

Please put me down for a Forest Green with black interior. Fun stuff!
  9. Gen 1 major ride quality & handling improvement after 2024.19.04 software update - how's your experience?

The improvement in dive control changes many aspects of the handling for the better. The car's weight shifts much more gradually and controllably into turns. The handling feels much more controlled and secure.
  10. Gen 1 major ride quality & handling improvement after 2024.19.04 software update - how's your experience?

I have noticed a major overall improvement in the ride and handling of my R1S since the software update. The ride is much more settled on soft - almost all the side to side, and front to rear, pitching and tossing is gone. But beyond that, there is a new fluidity and smoothness to the...
  11. Switching from 275/65/20 to 275/60/20

My appointment of course isn't till August. This is Rivian service we are talking about. I'll let you know then.
  12. R1s Ride Comfort between AT and 22s

I am running 275/60/20R Pirelli AS on my 20s (switched out the ATs). They transformed the ride and handling of the car. Sharp handling and supple ride. I suspect a lot of the ride complaints about the R1S are as much tire related as suspension tuning. It is telling that the standard tires...
  13. Switching from 275/65/20 to 275/60/20

My understanding from the service center is that there are a lot of variables that need to be adjusted when the tire diameter changes (radar settings etc.). It is possible that the Gen 1 processor is less sophisticated or that the suspension control software operates differently than the Gen 2...
  14. Switching from 275/65/20 to 275/60/20

I made the switch to 275/60/20 and other than having to do the 3% mental discount to adjust I have had no issues. The service center this week agreed (finally) to recalibrate since Rivian now offers a 275/60/20. I believe that the ability to adjust wheel diameter at home will be limited to...
  15. 2022 R1S VS 2022 R1T Ride quality...where do we stand today after 2 years of OTA's?

Echoing the earlier comment about tire/wheel variables. The ride and handling of my 2022 R1S changed significantly (for the better) when I switched from the 20 ATs to 20 AS tires. The subsequent OTA updates made things even more serene. Based on my experience I am guessing that a good bit...
  16. Scorpion AS + Tires questions for owners who switched

I have driven about 12k miles on the AS + after replacing the ATs. I have loved the AS + and no problems. They are silent (huge improvement over ATs), handle better, ride better, and the efficiency is now identical to the 21s. I have never had a problem with tire rotation etc. I actually...
  17. Cameras not working, service your vehicle

Yes. I just had this fixed on my R1S (albeit after 20k miles and a year and a half). In my case water had infiltrated the motherboard and taken out the whole system. Others have reported individual camera failures but bc the system is daisy chained, one bad camera takes it all down. Either...
  18. Picked up R1S 3/31/2024 - broke two blocks later followed by a catastrophic failure

Different component but similar story. Two days after delivery in October 2022, my R1S threw a major battery failure. Rivian had to send a flatbed to fetch the car. But . . . almost 20k miles later, it has been perfect ever since. I also contemplated a return and am glad I didn't.
