Rivian needs to get in the battery storage business so they can sell themselves storage for their RAN locations. That is how EVGo, EA and others do it - and they often end up buying them from Tesla.
Ultimately, this is how the Supercharger network is profitable and possible in areas where...
I somewhat disagree.
Tesla manufactures;
Battery storage
Chargers
Charging network software
Battery management software
Solar panels
Solar shingles
And of course - electric vehicles
There is no other competitor that can profitably manufacture and deliver the services of what I think of as...
I think RJ and Rivian is well intentioned. RAN was meant to be the complimentary CCS network that would exist for Rivian owners in locations they were likely to be. In theory; it had a path forward. It might have required getting in the battery storage business (to avoid demand charges and allow...
With the exception of ChargePoint; the rest of the names listed don’t make chargers. They actually buy their chargers from other companies. A brand like EVGo slaps a vinyl decal on the charger, and makes an app that accepts payment and remotely authorizes chargers. They spend all their money...
I am in the minority and think that North America should either ditch CCS1 for CCS2, or ditch CCS1 for NACS, or ditch CCS1 for a new plug that has yet to be developed.
I am anti-CCS1, primarily because I can’t use most stations unless the handle is basically broken and its really warm outside.
If only there was just one account needed. Between all these CCS brands - owners need a dozen accounts, reloading funds on them all, maintaining passwords - its a nightmare for older or less technical people.
CCS1 doesn’t pass the grandparent test - and grandchildren already are up to their...
Amen. The NACS charger is truly magical. It passes the grandparent test and the ADA test.
I know I don’t want to get a phone call from my grandpa asking how he uses a Enel X QR code activated charger that requires creating an account, reloading funds to the account, remembering his password...
With the Cybertruck coming out with 1000v support, V4 Superchargers will suppose 800v cars and then some.
No one could share any specifics on number of CCS1 chargers that support high voltage cars like Porsche, Lucid and Hyundai/Kia. Most owners report poor / slow charging experiences. The...
I am partially disabled and can report first hand and with my only hand - its the port. The CCS1 port is trash. The CCS2 port is not as elegant as NACS, but it is better than CCS1 from an ADA perspective.
Once again, I can’t use CCS1. Should I not want one because of CCS1?
We’ve been over this already. The issue is the port, remember the conversation? CCS2 is more ADA friendly than CCS1.
CCS1 is trash and used in North America
CCS2 is what North America should have had all along.
It is most definitely the port, along with the reliability and durability of the port.
Tesla can’t force ABB to charge non-Tesla vehicles with NACS more than they can a Tesla.
we’re still going to have plenty of competition. I bet there is a patent, or fifty Patents even, on the gas dispensers we all used to use. And I never once felt those patents made my gasoline more expensive.
I mean NACS chargers faster than 100kW are being installed at a pace that is 4x+ greater than CCS.
When I say CCS is behind NACS; what I really mean is no one has stepped up to support it in a big way. If it weren’t for EA, there would be hardly any CCS1 stations in USA.
I wish I could bet...
Could add all the DCFC installed by every other brand in 2022, and they wouldn’t add up to what Tesla manufactured in just 6 months of 2022.
Can’t believe supercharge.info site - never seen it before. They are installing chargers in tiny towns with less than 1000 people; why would Tesla be...
don’t forget Honda and Acura. They use Ultium platform and will inevitably use NACS as well, as the alternative is to have their own custom Ultium platform on CCS
don’t forget Honda, Acura and Aptera. Honda and Acura use Ultium, which now uses NACS.
the ADA should sue the Biden administration for spending taxpayer dollars on something that isn’t ada compliant. I am one of millions of Americans who can’t use a CCS charger due to partial disability. But I...
As long CCS remains as difficult to use as it is, I won’t be able to use it without assistance. That will continue to be the case until I die, because disabilities are permanent. It isn’t myopic, it’s my life and millions of others life
