I think I do both, but mostly wait for the click when I plug it in. I think it's the weight on the cable that causes the disconnect at the handle over time. But I'll be more cognizant of hot plugging going forward. Thanks.

Just to close out the topic. Solution from Rivian was to replace the whole charger. Everything has worked seamless since replacement. I do envision the weight on the handle deteriorating over time again, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. First one lasted just shy of a year.
