    Need sticky, quiet 20's!

I like the looks of the Michelin Defender LTX Platinum but it's such a new tire there's just not a lot of data out there on it. FWIW, it is not a 3PMS tire...but that marketing splash is only for added traction in snow, not on ice. I'd love a good AS tire with 3PMS that's not overly heavy...

    Rivian Solar Charging

Here's a quick update to my note on Page 1 of this discussion. Yesterday was overcast here in the Bay Area and we produced approximately half of the solar power in our system. The first screen picture attached is from two days ago (when it was a cloudless day) and the second is from yesterday...

    Rivian Solar Charging

I have 23 400w solar panels on my roof, each one is about 3' x 6'. Yesterday was a completely cloudless day and my system made 48.9kWh throughout the entire day. So that's an average of 2.13kWh per panel per day. Solar on a car won't do more than a trickle charge.

    Unreasonable extra costs

I just got me CA license renewal and it's just a bit over $1300 - I'll trade you! Seriously though, in our case, the license fees are based on the sales price of the car so the more $ the car, the more $ for license. Additionally, an equally priced R1T will cost more to license than the R1S...

Chicago to Vancouver - Use Rivian or ABRP?

When doing a trip up the west coast last fall I used ABRP and Plugshare to plan the trip. I had the addresses of the stops in my phone, and then only used the Rivian mapping to go from one stop to the next (as at the time is would get wonky if you added them all together). This seemed to work...

Rivian charger or Tesla universal charger?

I have a Wallbox charger and like it. It works well with both the Tesla and Rivian. It has it's own App. A week or so after I had it installed, it developed a problem. I did a 5-minute phone call with their tech support and they said there's a problem with the unit and it needs to be...

    Burnt 240V outlet

I'm not an electrician, but my understanding is that you only set the truck/charger to charge at 80% of the rating of the lowest component in the line: breaker, wire, or outlet. What it looks like : Item Rating Charge Setting Breaker 50a 40a 10 Gauge Wire 30a 24a 8 Gauge wire 55-65a...

Another First EV Roadtrip Post / Oregon to SoCal

I did a trip from the Bay Area to Tacoma, WA last fall with just doggo and I. I stopped at an EA station once, and then the three RANs up to Portland - 4 charging stops in all with about 2.5-3 hours driving each leg. Total time was about 16 hours each way. Each charge stop was about 30-40...

Lomaxx tonneau cover inhibits spare tire access

I can get mine out no problem and leave the cover on. I've done it now for two tire rotations. There is one little trick to doing so: The thing that looks to stop wheel removal is the threaded bolt that runs down the middle of the spare wheel set and holds it in place in the well. Get...

Early Reservation Pricing Deadline September 2024

The R1 has been out for a long time and the last major pre-price feature to be released seas the Max Pack. Unless you live too far from a service center, it’s time to either buy or not. Rivian is in business to make money and they need to do it without these early price holders dragging down...

Tesla Driver calls Cop on Rivian Driver

If that Karen were going off on me, I'd say, "go ahead and call the police while I'm here charging." Then when the police show up, I'd politely inform the officer that Tesla has recently opened up charging to non-rivian vehicles. Then ask the officer if I can do a quick web search to validate...

Air suspension noise - is it normal?

Mine clicks and clacks a lot when adjusting at low speeds. I was worried about it early on, but it doesn't seem to change.

    Best 3rd party tonneau cover?

I have the Lomax and love it. It's kept the bed dry when driving though 250 miles of Pac NW rain and it's easy to open and close. You can easily open it up to get something up near the cab and then close it down again. Super Easy. Super durable. about 1/2 the cost of the OEM

Poor Bluetooth Connection when shifting to Park

It happens to me. Typically when at home and just either pulling up or backing away - as soon as I Mode a couple feet, it clears up. I've always attributed this to the phone switching between the house Wifi & 5G connection. I don't use the truck Wifi. Since it only happens for a couple of...

Bought a truck from the shop - no word from Rivian

The guide assignment process is suppose to be automatic. When I selected my truck from the shop last summer, I didn't get a guide. I had to call in and eventually got one assigned a couple days later. My recommendation is to call in and see what the deal is.

Rivian R1S DM Standard+ AT 20 inch wheels

Quad AT 20's here, about 13k miles in CA and the west coast, run in AP most of the time. Every time I reset the trip computer, it's about 1.98 m/kWh. This included the first 7k miles, a 2k mile trip to and from Seattle, and several smaller trip calculations to the Sierra Nevada's (over and...

What is the best setting/mode for minimum battery drain when leaving the truck for two weeks?

I was on vacation for 15 days back in February and the daytime temps were a high of 60 and lows generally in the 40s. Gear guard off and I only checked 2-3x while away. I had 70% SoC when I left and 55% when I returned - so lost about 1% per day. The air suspension settled all the way down...
