Got it. Of course real snow tires will make the biggest difference. 95% of my driving is in warm SoCal weather with occasional light or deep snow in the mountains, so dedicated snow tires on my truck don't make sense for me.
Good to know. The ABS works well when the mechanical brakes are engaged. But when I'm only using regen to slow down, the truck often slides sideways, possibly due to lock up. I wish they would let us turn regen off. Then we would know for sure. This does seem like a safety issue.
I have had a similar experience to OP in snow. I'm using Nokian Outpost nAT tires. The uphill traction is really good so I don't get stuck, but for some reason the downhill traction while braking is much worse. I'm not sure if it's from the regen locking up some wheels while going downhill, but...
Interesting! I didn't realize that the motors could stall like that. So far this seems consistent with what I have experienced, but I will have to learn more about how these motors work to understand more fully.
In theory, with the right software, quad motors should be better, but I have found the individual wheel control in my four motor R1T to be not nearly as good as it should be. The software doesn't always deliver enough power to the wheels with grip. Even with the pedal floored, none of the...
My past Porsche and BMW (from 1999) were way more accurate than my R1T. I hope this is something they redesign. Other car makers have been doing it pretty accurately for decades.
I have the EV Sportline panoramic sunroof shade and I like it a lot. I can set the temperature 1-2 degrees F higher in the car now, since there is less thermal radiation from the sunroof. I also have a Llumar 80 tint on the windshield which helps reduce thermal radiation a lot when I'm driving...
I experienced the exact same behavior as OP. I had to wrestle control back from the truck while it swerved back and forth.
On a separate occasion the truck bumped into a concrete construction barrier at 85mph and bounced back into the lane. I stopped using the lane keeping function now since it...
I think it can’t match the charging rate to the battery draw. If I have the truck set to charge at 8kW, and the heater is using 1kW, the truck can’t reduce the charge rate down to 1kW to backfill the heater draw. So the heater draws down the battery a little until the charging kicks in at 8kW...
I had the same experience as OP. The car jerked left towards the center divider. I had to fight it to bring it back into my lane. It kept fighting me and pushed me into the lane on the right. I wrestled it back into my lane and it gave control back to me. I haven’t been brave enough to try it again.
