    Frankly, it was due to lack of experience with working with hardware and lack of access to larger tools. Copying a video build was much easier than designing my own set up. I would assume one could create a build much cheaper by using cheaper materials and having access to a table saw etc.

    It's just a bit over 6" from the base of the mounting points to the top of the extruded aluminum. Quite a bit of height is lost from needing the extruded aluminum to be both the mounting point for the drawer slides and to mount the frame of the kitchen to it. I can't reduce the height on it...
