Rivian has done a great job managing this info, because:
the people who want to jump in right away (like me!) feel confident that we'll get free Autonomy+ with few if any functional limitations for a few years, which seems like a really solid deal.
the people who want to wait for Gen3 feel like...
I feel like it would make a lot more sense from a manufacturing standpoint for Rivian to have the Gen 3 cameras and radar units on the R2 at launch, and simply add the chip and LIDAR sensor when they're ready. Otherwise, they're re-fitting a lot of different parts that need to be mounted...
Where I live (rural-ish Northern NJ) I think it's going to be a long time (2035+) before I see any real usability with Level 4.
But if you're in an urban area in a sunny state that permits Level 4 now, I'm sure you'll get use out of it much sooner (as soon as the insurance and liability bits...
I'm happy to get Autonomy+ bundled in the LE at no additional cost and reevaluate if it's worth paying for in my next car when Level 4 is legal and proves useful.
To me, that's the real question—when will Level 4 be permitted by law, what will it do to insurance rates and legal liability, when...
Sounds like they're focusing on pumping out the colors they think people are most likely to want so they can produce as many R2's as possible to serve the broad middle while reducing complexity, at least to start.
It makes sense in a way, as long as they're offering a launch color you want...
I saw an interview with RJ last night where he said Gen2 will support full level 3 autonomy (eyes off, point to point). That's enough for me. Even eyes off makes me nervous!
I also wonder if there will be legal limitations to the adoption of level 4 in the US—we usually lag on such things being...
I'm not worried about Gen2 affecting resale value, because I'm going to keep the car long enough that resale will be more about battery health and the overall condition of the car (7+ years most likely).
Plus, some buyers simply won't care about the hardware version like an enthusiast might...
So like many of you, I was debating between:
Going with a Launch Edition, which includes "lifetime" Autonomy+ and the Gen2 hardware, or...
Waiting until 2027 for Gen3 with LIDAR.
I wanted to share my reasoning in case it helps any of you folks.
For me it turned out to be a no-brainer—I'm...
I also prefer the look of the 20's.
The 21's are actually okay for a Rivian "sport" design, but those 20's really scratch the "All Terrain Dark" itch I have from lusting after numerous R1s.
I'm a bit torn here and would appreciate some perspective from R1 folks.
I'm going to jump at the Launch Edition first change I get, but I'm debating which wheels to go with.
The 21's might feel more "sporty" and planted, which could be nice for the Performance trim, but replacement tires are...
I was just asking the AI on Rivian's site about when day 1 / Launch Edition wanting / major market reservation holders (like me) might get our R2's, and it shared back a timing tidbit, which I haven't seen elsewhere:
Rivian hasn’t shared exact delivery timing for individual reservation holders...
It's funny, the more I see of CC, the more I like it. It's not bright, but I think it really flatters the R2's form and has a mature vibe, but still feels different than all the white / gray / black cars out there.
I love Rivian Blue, but I think it would feel like "a lot" on this car. Compass...
I really like it in Launch Green, but the R2 I've had in my head for the last two years is Glacier White because it was the communication color of the prototype. I know it's basic, but it's floating around up there!
All told, I generally prefer the lighter colors because of how they contrast...
There's no option in the R1T store to select battery type, even using the Normal, Illinois zip code as the delivery area. So I'm guessing it's either imminent, click-bait social posting, or as DFX noted, a click slip.
I think they have a ton of R1S orders to fill with Large packs and likely...
Sounds like the OP has effectively gone off the grid by shipping the truck away from the regions where Rivian and AT&T have an agreement in place.
I feel the OP's pain, but I don't think it's fair to expect Rivian and AT&T to offer connectivity in places (countries? continents?) where Rivian...
I don't know the details of your situation, but Newark is my local airport and parking isn't cheap. For what you'd pay, you might just take a car service and not have to worry about your R1 draining while you're away.
Food for thought. Might cost a bit extra, but not having to stress about EV...
Hey all, I've been stalking the secondary market for a lightly used R1T, as they are readily available and actually offer a bit of saving over buying new (at least without pre-March 1, 2022 pricing).
Anyway, I'm looking at a truck with a VIN around 11,500 and was wondering if anyone has any...
With the secondary market softening a bit and me being impatient, a lightly-used R1T holds some appeal for me. But, as a first-gen vehicle from a new manufacturer, having access to the full warranty support is crucial.
So I'm searching for info on how the warranty transfers (including searching...
