After 8 years of Tesla ownership and 3 years of Rivian, my understanding is that this displayed range doesn't change based on a persons speed or driving style. I believe that it's essentially reflection of the EPA rated range in the particular drive mode you've selected ie: conserve, sport, all...
310 - 315 miles!
Dual Motor AWD, Large Battery with AT tires.
Opting for a more road biased tire should increase range further yet.
I do wish the 10%-80% charging time was more like 20 minutes instead of 30.
Overall a nice EV with solid specs that should be quite appealing to many consumers.
I didn’t realize I was shaking a hornets nest. I am simply trying to guess the range of the different varieties w based on publicly available information and to see if any of you have publicly available info that supports my estimates or something else.
My estimate is far from a wild ass guess...
In my first post I stated that my Gen 1 R1S Quad "typically makes about the EPA range at 65 mph so I think my estimates should be close."
I hope my estimates are low, because as others have stated the R2's success is likely a make or break moment for Rivian and I believe that it probably needs...
My R2 Range Estimates
TLDR: 218 to 311 mi depending on configuration.
Standard Battery, Dual Motor:
218 mi
Standard Bat, Single Motor:
245 mi
Large Bat, Dual Motor:
276 mi
Large Bat, Single Motor:
311 mi
Estimates are Based on the following data from A Better Route Planner. Since ABRP is...
Here's a comparison between BFG KO 3, Bridgestone Dueler AT Ascent Enlighten, and Cooper Stronghold. Not on a Rivian but his summary is that the Bridgestone is most street oriented, Cooper is most trail oriented, and the BFG was the best compromise and the tire that he will likely use as a daily...
I'm in need for my first set of replacements and I think I've settled on the Toyo AT 3 EV's however I'm not sure if I should get the Passenger variant or the LT. I drive an R1S in a wide variety of conditions. I don't off road frequently, but when I do I get after it. I want a tire with a...
Thanks for the link this and advice, it helps with the analysis-paralysis.
Regarding the efficiency hit it’s the acceleration where a heavier tire should require more energy. Once the vehicle (and wheel) is up to speed energy use should be similar. So I suspect a heavier tire won’t impact...
@RWerksman thanks.
So if you were going to get new tires today and wanted an AT that can hold up to occasional moderate off roading, about as efficient as the Pirelli AT, but quieter what would you go with?
@RWerksmam so now, two years later, how do you feel about the Geolandars?
I have these on an older Landcruiser. It’s seems like an ideal tread pattern for the way I use my R1S - infrequent but moderate off-roading, significant snow in winter. I’m considering replacing my OEM Pirelli AT’s with...
After posting here I came to the conclusion that I cant think of another viable option that would be any better so ordered two more add-ons which will give me a total capacity of four bikes. I primarily carry one or two bikes, but a few times a year I need to carry four so this will be a welcome...
johnj2803 great report. I have the base Mach2 with one add-on, so capacity for two bikes. I want to add more bikes to it, but before I drop the $1,300 ish coin on two more extensions I'm curious if you have calculated how much reduction in range/efficiency at highway speeds with 4 full size...
TLDR: A recent highway test I conducted resulted in 410 Wh/mi (aka 2.44 mi/kWh) as the correct A Better Route Planner Reference 65mph consumption for my 2022 R1S with 20” Pirelli AT’s and roughly 6,000 mi. on the odometer.
Ride Height: Standard.
Drive Mode: All Purpose.
Longer Version:

Important Update:
The correct torque setting was significantly lower than what generic torque charts indicate.
Rivian gave me a phone number for the Rivian Service Specialist Center to call to ask for the correct torque settings for these bolts. I am very glad I called!
After doing some...
The Tesla engineer has it right! The port needs to be in the front right location in right hand drive countries.
1) allows for curbside charging.
2) no interference between the charging stall and trailers, bikes, etc on the rear.
3) allows for seamless use of the much more widespread Tesla...
Hi all,
I loosened the 4 attachment bolts for the front drivers seat in my R1S in order to retrieve a lost Apple AirPod that fell down between the seat frame and floor.
Where can I find a Rivian shop manual with the proper torque specs to ensure I don’t under or over torque these very...
To be fair, technically there was “light” coming out of the headlights and thru the ice, but it was nowhere near enough to be considered sufficient for safe driving.
Well the headlight icing just happened to me for the first time last night. Three weeks into my ownership and was loving my R1S until this experience. This is a VERY poor design and has significant potential to get someone killed.
I was driving on the interstate in wet snowfall temps about 35°...
