I wonder if Rally mode increases power at all over All Purpose. WRC comes to mind when I think of Rally.

I haven't seen the $$ price yet - do we know? $5K or a penalty for not buying upfront and so $6K? or, given this is March - make some $$ now for quarter-end push and offer for $3.5K till end of March??

I think they will have an incentive price that will be good until the end of March. Then the regular price after that. A guess

It’s probably smart they are waiting to offer the expanded battery pack unlocks until later for standard plus and large plus….
if an upgrade from standard plus to large was $5k, and a PDM unlock was $5k… would you buy both? If you picked one, which one?
If faced with that option, I would lean toward the battery unlock. It’s functional.

but… offer PDM now. Once customers have kind of forgotten they dropped $5k on what is essentially a novelty, they will be ready to drop another $5k at the end of the year for something that’s got an actual functional use.

Personally, I’m all in on the PDM upgrade if it’s $3500 or less. It’s been between free and $3500 for the last 8 months or so with all the incentives. The standard plus to large excites me way more. Especially since I tow a boat and a utility trailer around here and there. That extra 10 kWh of battery would be nice.

Anyone knows how dual performance upgrade applies to leased car? Do I need to pay full 5K to get the upgrade or it can be done as part of monthly lease payments, as well?

Doesn't seem like theres any consideration for leases. It's 5k still per car.

Since the upgrade seems tied to the account rather than the car, I wonder if anyone that purchases this will lose that value if selling?

Wish Rivian offered this as a subscription for those of us on leases or not planning to keep it for too much longer. This makes sense to me because we can't recoupe the depreciated costs when selling either.

True. There are lot of people who are on leases and would like to upgrade either by pro-rating costs in lease payments or subscription option. Hopefully, they will do something about it.

Adding PDM might give you some additional resale value (outside of selling it to Rivian). If you check out the Carmax quote tool and enter your VIN, it asks you what size battery pack you have and if the car has performance. Presumably, answering Large and Performance is factored into their valuation somewhere.

Rivian on the other hand, will more than likely resell that car with or without the SW unlocks, regardless of how they received it.

For Rivian, that trade in could simultaneously become 5 separate pre-owned listings for:
Standard Dual Motor
Standard+ Dual Motor
Standard+ PDM
Large Dual Motor
Large PDM

I doubt Rivian would value the car differently if you add the upgrade assuming you are trading it or turning it back in to them.

If you own and do one of the upgrades, you should strongly consider either a private sale or one of the non-Rivian routes when you sell it (or at least get a few quotes).

Also interested what they do for lessees. I'd say I'm performance-curious, but if it's $5k for what is 24 months remaining on my lease it doesn't make sense. But if it's some sort of monthly charge - could be interesting.
this. Not giving them $5k on a lease - but for a small monthly fee? Mayyyyybe.

I'm not sure they can legally sell it if the VIN was indicating a specific model. They could say the SW unlock comes with it the car, but I haven't seen official guidance on how this will work. It definitely doesn't make sense for leases that won't be bought out.
