i have a bike rack and it's blocking the view of my backup camera. so i bought an aftermarket backup camera so i can see past the bike rack.
does anyone know where the factory backup light wire or fuse is located? or has anyone succesfully installed one with reverse activation?

thanks

Normally you could tap in to the trailer plug but from what I have read here it doesn't get power unless you actually have something plugged in to it/are towing something. Which disables some features like Driver+, etc. Those with with more experience can chime in here.

R1S or R1T?

I use the trailer plug for a break and turn signal light on my bike rack. Perhaps you can wire your camera into a plug for that.

You could tap into the Reverse in the 7-pin plug which is the center pin in the plug. This is used commonly in RV Trailers for backup lights as well as boat trailers to disengage the brakes when backing. See the standard wiring diagram below...

This would make the truck think you are towing which will deactivate any assisted cruise though.

What about just using the bed camera when reversing? Not quite the same as having the camera on the other side of the bike, but it's also already built into the truck.

The short answer is:

It is possible.

Longer answer:

I recently added a hitch mounted tire swing to my R1T.

After a couple weekend projects worth of looking like a tweaker in my garage I have a completely usable solution for wiring my license plate light, and more importantly for this thread, I found a location for a 12v reverse trigger to make my aftermarket rear view camera work. (wolfbox G900 Pro, if you know these type of cameras you know you need a 12v signal to make the reverse lines function)
The license plate was easy just popped to tabs and pulled down enough to splice, it was annoying because I had to fish around a plastic channel that is in the bumper for the proximity sensors

Ultimately I was able to splice into the rear light on the passenger side, if you go this route I recommend this side as the driver side has a strut that cuts into the working space

I was able to make enough room by pulling most of the trim torx connectors but I think I can figure out a more elegant solution

-The solution has not created any faults or system errors
-maintains all driver+ functionality (my T is an earlier gen1 build)
-Tow mode is NOT falsely engaged
-it is not draining the battery and the lights function the same as the regular reverse light and license plate light
-it is removable/ reversible
-It would be very doable as a single day project (especially if you have a rough guide to follow)

Currently I have a working solution but I think I can troubleshoot a much easier route, just need to get a new battery in my voltmeter to continuity test properly

Final goal is to be able to splice in to the loom in the bumper harness and avoid having to pull any trim pieces/ parts

(This is an example, this was not the right wire, just an example of what I want to accomplish)

Would love to hear more details on this solution. I have a similar need.
