I used to be able to easily say "Alexa, play XXX by XXX on Spotify," and it would work, no problems. After the recent update, I tried out Apple Music, and now, Alexa says "In order to control Spotify, please log in to your account on the app." I have done a hard reset, infotainment reset, logged out and back into Spotify, and logged out of Apple Music completely on the Rivian, it still won't go back to how it was in the past. Alexa controlling Spotify was really nice, as the kids could pick their own songs from the back seat using their voice. How do I fix this?

Do an infotainment reset. This happened to me several times over the live of the truck the last 18 months.

Sorry, should have clarified. I have done an infotainment reset multiple times as well, keeps happening.

Additionally, i get the "you'll need to update the Spotify app for me to do that" started with the last update and continues into the latest firmware.

Has anyone been able to use Alexa to give a “thumbs up” or “ heart” to songs on Spotify? I keep getting a message ”only available for custom playlists” or something similar. Reaching over to press the like button while driving is a PITA.

After a day of flailing I've finally got Alexa control of Spotify working, although I can't use Alexa to favorite, it says, "You can only set thumbs up or down for songs playing on your custom stations." Oh well, will have to reach across the car to hit the heart button. Which brings up a question of why I can't relocated that to the left side of the screen?

To get Alexa control of Spotify to work took lots of failed tries but the thing that fixed it I think, was somewhere in the flailing something said I couldn't link an account (maybe T-mobile, maybe Spotify or Apple Music) until I have added a device. Alexa listed my car, Edison, as a device but apparently that didn't matter. So I added my home Sonos devices to Alexa. After that I could link my Spotify account to Alexa in the phone app, then Alexa control of Spotify worked in Eddie. Alexa still says Apple Music is not controllable or something or other.

Anyway, maybe this will help others who have been struggling with Alexa and Spotify.

I am also still having problems, even after .35 update. Resets do nothing to help.

This problem remains for me. A at home service visit for a few things confirmed it with the tech. And Rivian now has video. “You’ll need to update your Spotify app” Reset only temporarily fixes it. I have a device appointment in December 🙄 and they are going to lol at it. I’m no hardware/software expert but I had no problems until the last 2 firmware updates

Please report it. Maybe enough people will and Rivian will take it seriously

Update: it worked for a day after the latest update 🎉

Also, premium sound seem to sound better, Apple Music appears less buggy and sounds great. Who By Numbers came up in my rotation and it sounds really good, very good separation. It's not something I listen to all the time but I was very impressed with that and a few other tunes.

Same with Tune-In. I used to be able tell Alexa to play a station on Tune-In. Now Alexa insists that Tune-In isn't available even though I can manually select Tune-In and Tune-In stations as before. Annoying.

And I'll join the "let me relocate the music info screen to the left side!" crowd. Having the info screen on the right side only and not selectable is just dumb.

With the latest update, even resetting infotainment doesn't work.

Out of curiousity, does anyone know how long a car company can keep trying to fix a software issue and do we have recourse? It's not a lemon issue and I love my R1S, but if they can't remedy it, am I just legally fooked with Spotify for the life of ownership? My problem started in July. Next appointment is in February. So I'll be about 8 months in.

Do you have a connect + subscription? If so; try a reset….if not; then there is your explanation…
