And it's not Lectron or A2Z, but a brand I've never heard of: Amphenol. Looks very similar to Tesla's adapter. Not sure if this certification means anything to Tesla and their position on third party adapters.

Amphenol has a very long history of making high quality electrical / audio connectors. This product is a great fit for them.

Yep, Amphenol has been around a *VERY* long time - they have just never sold anything directly to consumers. There are multiple different industries/segments that I have in my history that call various connectors "Amphenol connectors" because the company invented the connector, and it became ubiquitous. Of course, they're different industries, and different connectors. :D

(The common UHF radio connector is often called that. A connector used by telephone companies that holds dozens of phone lines on a single connector is often called that. In military and aviation circles, an old round data/signal connector is called that.)

The fact that this company is first with certification doesn't surprise me.

The fact that this company will sell directly to end users does.

Yup, Amphenol is 100% reputable…you can find connectors they make on almost every turbine powered military vehicle.

Amphenol sounds like the name of a street drug that would make you believe you can lift a bus.

Yes, they are an established manufacturer well known in industry. In fact my employer is a supplier to Amphenol. A2Z is not (well known & established) although I think they make a great adapter.

This used to be true, and to be fair, still is for the kind of connectors and components you describe - the ones that made Amphenol famous and as you say made them a generic term.

Like you, I was shocked to come across the fact that Amphenol set up a company years ago to sell cable assemblies direct to consumer. Probably as a result of needing to compete.

Amphenol has been an outlier for years, selling the connectors you describe direct customers, typically manufacturers. They don't use distributors in the middle. I've been hopeful they would set up the rest of their catalog "direct", but as far as I can, tell you still have to get them from a company that uses them in the manufacturing process.

Amphenol high power connectors are all over EVs. The powerlok series is common for connecting to battery packs, motors, inverters, etc.

Amphenol? They're colossal! A Fortune 500 giant with nearly 100,000 employees generating billions annually. They've been engineering critical components since the Apollo missions and remain essential in every aerospace project, fighter jet, and virtually every vehicle worldwide. By comparison, Lectron and A2Z combined might scrape together 150 employees total—they're practically boutique operations in Amphenol's shadow.

My thought exactly. I've never heard of them so when I first read the headline Drug Company is the first thing that came to mind.
Glad to hear they are a very reputable company.
