Anyone using the Rivian hotspot

I don't try to use the hotspot often, but up where I am my Verizon phone and Rivian hotspot (on the ATT network) can have widely different coverage.

Yesterday, I had 3 or 4 bars on the Rivian with Spotify/Alexa working, and no bars on my cell phone. I tried to connect my phone to the hotspot. It connected but "No Internet".

I checked the hotspot was enabled, and I could connect but nothing coming through.

Has anyone seen this or is there another required step on my phone or truck?

I had this happen with a friend's phone once and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. It wasn't critical so she just gave up.

With that said, I've used it with my laptop multiple times without issue.

My hotspot works fine for my phone wifi connection (mobile data turned off).

Check your account (best on the desktop site). There should be a section that tells you if your Hotspot is ready, i.e you have completed the agreement. Other than that, file a support request.

My hotspot works great. I use it every time I drive. It connects automatically for me and my kids. I remember the first time I tried it, I had trouble. Tried again later and it worked fine ever since. The speed is slower than my ATT phone, but at least I don't get throttled date at the end of the month. I stream for most of my 100 mile round trip commute.

My hotspot has worked well for the last few updates. When I first got the truck it was non-functional; it would disable itself a few seconds after turning it on. But that was fixed probably three OTAs ago.

Do we know if there is an expiration on this service? Like with Tesla it used to be 1 year free. Now it’s just one month free. Has rivian designated how long this will be provided at no cost?

No. There is strong speculation that it will become locked within the "membership" but when that comes out, what is in it, and how much it will cost has not been announced, yet.

I was wondering about the expiration too, or maybe they created a premium tier. I've had my R1T for about 6 mos now.

I used it without any issues. Connected my laptop and even used the VPN. Before doing so, I did rename the network and change the password but not sure that would really matter.

I was told by my SC delivery tech that it’s good for 1 year. After that expect a charge. But they haven’t issued any guidance on what that would be. He did mention early R1T deliveries are coming up on 1 year so expect guidance soon.

On my Bolt I pay 20/month for wifi hotspot (served by ATT)
works well and just is another line on my phone plan.
