The feature will enable Rivian owners to check vehicle status, battery range, and climate settings, as well as lock and unlock doors, activate lights or the horn, and locate the vehicle with pedestrian-friendly navigation guidance. Users will also be able to confirm whether windows are closed and start or stop charging remotely.

“Both will work very nicely together, soon,” Bensaid wrote on Saturday, without specifying whether Rivian plans to launch a standalone Apple Watch app, as Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Volvo and Honda have recently done.

In addition to remote control, the integration is expected to offer glanceable information such as battery level, charging status, and vehicle lock state, along with real-time notifications for charging errors, completed sessions, security alerts, and software updates.

Bensaid commented on Sunday a Reddit post where a Rivian Gen-2 owner named the infotainment lag as “ridiculous” and “embarassing” guaranteeing the team is working on the issues.

“Agree. UI performance is not where it should be,” Rivian’s Software chief stated. “There’s a compound set of issues from some apps that are affecting the overall behavior. We’re working on it and will get it addressed.”

But can you drive with Apple Watch if I forget my phone at home?
Nobody knows for sure, but it is certainly possible with or without an app. Depends on how the vehicle authenticates with the device and if that is secure enough to allow the owner to drive off.

Worked in vehicle cybersecurity and it was a new topic. Never took off while I was at the company. Still in early phases of discussion.

I'm most interested to hear about the structural issues they are dealing with in the UI. It's clear that something underlying is causing hiccups. An architectural fix is going to be most welcome for performance.

I hope at least "Watch app for manual controls" is available for Gen 1, even if full WaaK isn't. Just the ability to unlock my truck from the watch (over either Bluetooth or Cellular) would be enough for me, allowing me to leave phone locked in the truck while I go somewhere, without having to bring the band-key.

To be fair, there is no technological reason I can think of that they couldn't implement full WaaK in the exact same manner as PaaK in Gen 1.

PAAK and ability to drive is not dependent of cellular connectivity. Neither is the fob or keycards. So why not? But we’ll find out once this development is released.

PAAK and fob are Bluetooth (gen 1). Keycards are NFC. Apple watch has both.

I'm far more likely to forget my watch than my phone. Wallet...keys...phone was the old ICE 'what do I need before I leave the house' routine. Now it's just wallet...phone (with key card in wallet).

I would just like PAAK to work consistently 99% of the time, without me having to take out my phone, and opening up the rivian app (even thought it’s already running), and then hitting “unlock” on it 🥲

Don't hate me for saying it, but I want a fix for the two Rivian PaaK problem. Right now, the PaaK only works for one vehicle at a time and you have to go in and manually switch to open the other vehicle. Very irritating when both of your cars are Rivians and inevitably it has the wrong car selected when your hands are full and you need it.

Tesla used to have this same problem but then implemented a fix where it would support multiple vehicles simultaneously. If Tesla can do it.... Cm'on Wassym give us some love. We're expectlng lots of two Rivian garages once the R2 arrives!

Open your Rivian mobile app, scroll and tap on “share feedback”. More likely to be heard by the right people than an unofficial forum they aren’t paying much attention to, if at all.

This is a good start, but in my opinion... poor branding. Rivian doesn't support carplay or android auto, however, they are egar to replace their proprietary wrist band to apple watch before Garmin? Rivian is known for the off beaten path and Garmin is just that, for the adventure seekers. Apple isn't as adventurous as Garmin or Samsung...even though they're built off android for their infotainment.
Give to all, or non!
