I have posted this on Reddit and also logged the "complaint" with Rivian's service department, but maybe the idea will get a little traction here too.

Have owned an R1T for 18 months and still love it. My issue with Pet Comfort is that it's too hot for my dogs in wintertime.

Rivian will not allow you to dial in a custom temp for your pets: it defaults to 72 degrees and you can then only manually override that temp, lowering to 68.

We humans never set the heat above 70 in the winter when we are in the truck with the dogs. (72 would melt our faces.)

These dogs have thick winter coats and they've asked me to set the temp around 60 when I leave them in the truck. Unfortunately, I ignore them because Rivian thinks that I'm too irresponsible to determine a comfortable setting and forces me to a higher setting.

Yes, I can leave the window cracked (and risk break-ins while air conditioning the outside air). Yes, I can leave Pet Comfort off (which results in the dogs setting off the security alarm from inside the truck).

Or, maybe Rivian could trust its owners just slightly more and widen the range more than 4 degrees?

In any event, if this bothers you at all, maybe open a service ticket too? It would literally take 3 minutes for them to issue a software update to fix this.

That's a great point. Most dogs don't need anywhere close to 72, especially in a Rivian, who's 72 feels more like 102.

Your avatar is the exact depiction of what my dogs are experiencing.

Yes, I can leave Pet Comfort off (which results in the dogs setting off the security alarm from inside the truck).
I'd just turn the alarm off too. Though if your dogs are cute enough I might consider breaking into your R1 just to pet them.

When I posted this same complaint on Reddit (hoping that the head of software at Rivian might take note/comment), I got a few comments like, "dude, just crack the windows and turn off Pet Comfort and turn off your car alarm..."

My (quite reasonable) position is that it seems dumb for me to disable half of the truck's features just to make my dogs comfortable, especially when the built-in Pet Comfort mode doesn't currently work in a relatively common situation.

And I'm also just annoyed that Rivian is governing this setting so rigidly. Is Rivian preventing us from freezing/boiling our dogs by confining us to 4 degrees of flexibility? Is Peta involved in this conspiracy??

In any event, it's highly likely that someone will break in just to pet the dogs. They are objectively pretty cute.

At the very least, Rivian has never considered that some people keep reptiles as pets, where the dual zone climate would come in handy here. One should be able to keep a side of the vehicle in the 90s and the other in the 70s.

Yeah sorry, no alarm can stop me from giving pets. Though I have been tricked by some dogs that are very inviting until my hand gets close enough for them to decide to see how I taste.

This thread aged well. New update lowers the temp to 63 in dog mode. Looks like someone listened!

How about the ability to keep the car at about 80 degrees F? Many times I'd just like to keep it below 90 degrees F when parked all day in the sun. Is Camp Mode better used for this scenario?
