I find that with the Hold feature on, it makes it harder to get aligned to a trailer vs if the car could creep. With the accelerator having some play before activating the car to reverse, I am worried I will push the pedal too far and slam into my trailer hitch on my camper or boat. Is there a way to take off the hold feature? I have not found a way and don't think there is, but I figured I would ask here.

A recent software update provided an automatic fine creep control in reverse. I found it works great with my boat trailer. Between the camera and the fine backup control, hooking up was a breeze.

As others have recommended, I’ve used off road mode to back up to the trailer. It reduces the amount of hold and makes small adjustments easier.

TIL this existed. I don't know why Rivian wouldn't allow a creep/non-hold setting in fwd and rev. I found it initially challenging to park in my garage with tight front space. Took lots of practice to feather the accelerator just right. A creep with hard push on accelerator to enable hold would be good -- MB has this feature.

As someone who tows a boat, I would also appreciate having some way to completely turn off hold mode. It's a bit nerve-racking connecting the boat trailer once you're withing a couple of inches of the coupler.

It would also be nice to turn it off for car washes, getting into neutral with hold off is a PIA. My Mach E has a setting for hold and I have it turned off permanently. It is not even needed.

As someone who has been regularly towing with my Rivian since I got it in 2022, I have never had a problem with fine control in All Purpose mode. It may take some practice getting the right amount of pedal pressure, but now it's second nature - I can back up to exactly the right position every time first try now, with very small movements per pedal press, less than 1" per backing pedal press is possible.

That said, a trailer valet does make life a lot easier, too. Then you just get the vehicle close, and hand-crank the trailer to exactly the right position. (Where I park my trailer at home, I *HAVE* to do this because the trailer just barely fits in its parking spot, and while I can back the Rivian up to the trailer no problem, no chance of backing the trailer up without hitting the garage while attached to the truck. Same with taking the trailer out - I have to "hand crank" it at least 10 feet out of its parking spot before connecting to the truck, so I now usually just park the truck where I'm going to be hand-cranking the trailer to anyway. )

I drove our Model 3 today, and the fine motor control on that vehicle is outstanding compared to the Rivian. I can inch that car forward and back as well as a ICE vehicle with a slush-o-matic. Also, when stopping, it doesn't jam itself in to Hold mode until the vehicle actually stops moving. The Rivian almost comes to a full stop but it's still moving as Hold mode clamps down the brakes.

This isn't anything like the behavior on our R1T. I find it so smooth I don't realize it's in Hold.

+1 here, one of these times my boat trailer is going to go through the bumper... it's unnerving !!

This is my #1 grief with the truck right now. It's fine with a jet ski trailer I can move around and land on the ball by hand, but my boat trailer is a finicky one and requires an almost perfect alignment for the hitch to drop on the ball. Those with a shorelander will understand the pain ;)

it's workable, but takes a few times to get it all lined up.

It was annoying at first, but I'm used to it now. The truck definitely can creep, but you have to find that very tiny spot where it does it without speeding up a lot. It took me a few trailer hookups to get there. And I have no idea why someone finds it hard to get in neutral for a car wash. I wash a few times a week. I set car wash mode as I approach. Then when told, hold the brake and light push up and hold for half a second, whatever, until it shows neutral. Zero issue.

I'm not trying to be a smart *ss with this statement, but after observing my wife struggle to reverse, I genuinely think it comes down to how much fine motor control an individual has, meaning everyone's experience is going to vary.

Am I the only one who’s figured this out? Getting in and out of my garage requires tight three-point turns, precise alignments, and close tolerances. Doing this with just the accelerator is scary and dangerous. I simply lightly press both pedals simultaneously and the truck moves like an ICE with an automatic transmission. You control creep with brake pedal pressure. Also great for connecting trailers.
