I live in the land of Houston Texas where every trip is typically 20 miles plus of mostly freeway driving. For example going to work is 19 miles of highway, my family visits on the weekends are 30 and 35 plus, my golf outings are usually at least 20 miles and again mostly highway. In theory I suppose I should use conserve mode on a daily basis to get the most out of a charge. On the other hand I charge at home so is the increased range even worth it.

I think I've answered my own question typing this out, LOL! Really just curious how often others use Conserve Mode, do you only use it on trips or more frequently?

I only use it on road trips and charging deserts. Otherwise I"m in AP as I don't need to eke out more range.

Only on longer trips for me. Because day to day driving I'm not really worried about range. But this past weekend I used it from door to door to vegas and back (los angeles county). That along with driver + made it an enjoyable drive. Both drives I would have made it without charging, but we stopped anyway at the Barstow RAN and charged for a few minutes while I had a sandwich and used the restroom. Pretty much zero drama...

In the year and couple months I've owned my R1S, I think I used Conserve mode 2 or 3 times.

For those 2-3 times, I knew I would be using the majority of my range during that day before I got back home. I'd turn it on when I hit the freeways and back to All Purpose when I got closer to my destination/side streets. Note, I charge at home and only charged outside of home once.

99% of the time I feel there's no need. Unless I'm going to be tapping into all my range, what's the point? Potentially more tire wear and probably slower acceleration? No thanks.

With the Tesla adapter now, I probably care about Conserve mode even less.

Then again I have the same argument against those who like home chargers. Why the need to charge at 20+mph when the free included cable gives you ~15? Are you using that much range where an overnight charge at 15mph doesn't give you enough for the following day? Anyway...different topic. :)

95% all-purpose. I'll switch to conserve for highway rides longer than 50ish miles or if need to maximize range for a roundway trip with few charging options.

There is an observed adverse impact on tire wear using conserve mode long term for a quad motor. I use Conserve only when I need to stretch my distance on roads trips.

Some on this forum have said they just drive in conserve mode and needed tires after 10,000 miles. That extreme of cases may involve some alignment issues as well. I drive 95 percent in all purpose and did get 41,000 miles out of my 21's. So as others have said unless you are on a trip going long distances on freeway I would leave it in AP.

I agree with above responses, I only use it on longer trips. I use it in low (not lowest), turn it on after I get on the highway and turn it off before exiting.

I’ve done 2 very long trips of 5500 and 7400 miles and find using conserve is not a huge difference maybe between .1 and .2 miles per kWh (between 5 and 9%) so on a 1000 mile trip might save 40 kWh.

I have 26.5k on my R1S, maybe 11k in conserve and looks like enough tread left on the original tires to get over 30k on them. Typically I drive in all purpose standard height and rotate tires between 6k and 7.5k miles. Only rotate tires front to back on same side, over the years I find this method seems to limit and tire vibrations.

I live further north in Ventura, I 100% agree with you the drive to Vegas is very easy with the RAN station in Barstow. One of my big questions before getting the R1T was that drive on the 15fwy.

Not to mention, the RAN off Las Vegas Blvd near the Vegas sign is an easy fast charge right before you head back home.

2022 Quad Large R1T.

First 10k miles, every time we hit the highway. Next 30k miles, only on road trips. Last 15k miles, never used it. With all the Tesla options now, charging infrastructure is prolific enough to remove the "need" to conserve. I've found myself wanting more HP or control on short notice during highway driving that it's not worth the few extra miles or $.50.

Also in houston, Tx. I use conserve mode for long trips only. Otherwise I use all purpose for everyday driving around town on 610/45/59/290 etc.

Since conserve for me (quad w/AT 20s) will only net me an additional 15-18 miles on a typical roadtrip charge, I only use it when I need to eek out a few more miles. Otherwise it's not worth the handling compromise (drives like a marshmallow on a hot skillet), extra tire wear, heat on the front motors, and that awful clunk as the rear driveline engages.

Road trips only, and really only when it looks like I'm going to be cutting it close to get to my preferred charging stop. I don't engage until on the freeway and disengage as I prepare to exit.

I’ve used conserve mode exactly zero times over 18 months of ownership. Highway commute everyday. Longest trip was a 140-mile round trip.

I probably should use it at least a few times just to make sure it works.
