under 2000 miles and frt right cv boot leaking, appears to be a leak... not a tear. Chat with Rivian, call Rivian, trying to get a boot ( I'm 200 miles from service center).. they say we'll talk with service center and get back with ya... they don't. I've called three times now over the last 6 days... Basically it's, "Ill reach out and circle back." they set me an appt for 9 days from now... but they don't know whether its a one day repair or not... but they'll circle back with me. hmmm. If they'd send me a boot, i'd install and voila! ( told em id pay for it)... but nope/// lets circle back!

Can you post a picture of where it's leaking from? How did you notice the leak? Enough that it's puddling under the vehicle? Driving off-road or just normal street driving?

CV grease is pretty thick. I wouldn't expect a "leak". What color is the fluid? Could possibly be hydraulic oil from the damper dripping down. That stuff is light blue IIRC.

My service technician noticed when changing the tires out. I’ll post pictures. To
Answer the other reply ( thank you both)… slinging grease would have been a better description. Thanks —- no off road yet. Maybe a gravel road..maybe.

Wow! Thank you for sharing the picture. I was just rolling around underneath my R1T earlier this morning inspecting things. Thankfully no slinging grease - yet, anyway. ? Good luck, please let us know how they resolve it.

If I were Rivian, I would want you to bring it in. With only a few thousand miles this shouldn't be broken, and if it is it's in their best interest to figure out whether this was caused by a manufacturing error, a bad part, or perhaps even road damage.

Probably just production error. I had an Acura that did same thing. They replaced the whole half shaft just to make sure it hadn't suffered any damage from anything that may have gotten into it. I found it first rotation at like 5k miles.

It happens. Replacing a cv boot is not easy task, it's messy as hell and requires you to disassemble the cv itself. Which almost no one does. Just let them fix it, they'll likely replace the whole shaft, it couple hour job. Patience grass hopper.

Thanks all. I’m fine with things breaking. Im not fine that it takes 6 days to answer a question. I’ve got a service appt on 25th. Lots of talking, messaging, driving, etc…. For something that could have been solved quickly and way cheaper. A large share of market will kick their ass. I like my car…. Hate the service

Back in the day you used to be able to buy CV boots in a "clamshell" configuration. You'd cut the old boot off, wrap the new boot around, pack it with grease, close it with tiny screws, straps, and call it a day.

While I'm not suggesting this as a permanent replacement, it would be a better alternative for someone with basic hand tools, compared to driving around for days/weeks with a leaking/torn boot slinging it's contents everywhere. A shame they didn't make something like this an option since it sounds like OP was anxious to handle the repair himself. ?

Yeah and turning rotors used to make sense too! Not longer. But they still have repair boots. Called fast boots, speed boots, yadda yadda. Some are bolt on, some use adhesive. Sometimes they work but mostly they don't. I'm sure a replacement cv boot of similar size can be bought at any parts store. I'm sure the boot isn't rivian special size.

Just found the same issue on my R1S front right boot after a month and with less than 750 miles on the vehicle. Mine wasn't as splattered, but still grease all over.

I have a service appointment for next week to take care of it, along with several other items

If the boot is not torn, then it may just be a loose clamp band on the outboard end of the boot. Other than having lost some grease, it would just need a new band clamp. Much easier than replacing the half shaft.
