Gen. 1 R1S. I had an obnoxious rattle on the top of the dashboard. It only occured when the dash was hot from the sun and on rough roads. SS tried to fix but no luck. I noticed the rattle stopped if I pushed down on the grille where the grille and the leather dash meet. I purchased 5.00 mm black rubber hose from Amazon ( I think it is actually advertised as a fix for the Tesla sunroof wind noise). With the yellow tool that is included, I wedged the hose (patience, it is a tight fit) between the metal grille and the leather the full length of the dash. It is visibly unnoticable and worked perfectly. My guess is the grille expands and contracts with the weather just enough to rub and rattle.

Thanks! This has been driving me semi-nuts recently as well. I'll give that a shot.

Same exact problem on my gen 1 R1t. I tried securing the dash mat to the dash but it still rattles. I'll try your technique next. It's gotten worse over time. Used to be just intermittent and with bumps. Now it's all the time. Seems like Rivian could offer a DYI fix suggestion if they put in the time and effort.

I have the same problem on mine, just got it back from the SC last week for them trying to fix it... Still rattles.

Might have to try this.

Same boat. This and a door rattle will both be tackled at some point.

Have this issue also. Pretty sure it's not because something is broken or not put together right. But a design/engineering oversight. Lake Forest CA SC did not want to dig into it back in January because it wasn't rattling for them. I think I will try this myself, instead of pulling the dash apart like other threads. I think the heat makes the dash flexible enough to bounce and bang against what is underneath (speaker mount) and that's what makes the rattle/thumping. Wedging this between the grill and dash probably reduce slack just enough to not flutter as much.

Please post pics. Thank you!

Adding that I've had this issue since ownership (late '23) and after 3 separate and unsuccessful attempts by Gaithersburg service center, I fixed it myself in a similar manner - wedged small pieces of black plastic between the dash grille and the dash soft "leather" area; about 3 of them. This worked for me for nearly all the time. However I think I'll try your method to have this buffer for the whole area. Thanks!

I had this problem. Rivian tried to fix it twice. The third time they put in a brand new piece that solved the problem.

Does anyone have a picture of the dash opened up?

I just smacked (slapped) the top of the dash the other day and it went away for the time being. We'll see when it decides to get out of line again. Thanks for the tip you mentioned!

I had the same rattle but I fixed it adding felt tape practically using the same method, but I thought that since it has adhesive, it will hold a bit better.

Nevertheless, the rattle is gone.
