Dirt inside tailgate, can I remove the plastic cover?

Last summer I hauled a pallet of sod home (love my truck) and, in the process of doing my yard work, a ton of dirt inevitably came off and into the truck bed. Got most of it off with a good wash but it seems like there's still a bunch of dirt INSIDE the tailgate. I have flushed it through the drain holes the best I can but there's STILL dirt coming out after a wash even 8 months later.

Is there an easy way to remove the plastic tailgate cover so I can vacuum or blow all the dirt out of the tailgate?

Do you mean the top liner? If so, yes, there are 12 clips. And service warns:

CAUTION:
Potentially non-reusable fastener(s).
Use a trim tool to pry near the highlighted tab(s).

I wondered the same thing about dirt accumulating at the tailgate. There is also an opening in the middle of truck bed where stuff can accumulate. How do I keep this area clear?

Get one of the various bed liners or door mat to cover the spare tire well. Even with the tonneau that area collects a bunch of crud and clogs drains.

That might be part of it but I want to remove the hard plastic bed liner material that covers most of the inside of the tailgate.

Once the cap comes off, it exposes a couple of torx screws for that panel to get removed.

Something else I learned when they replaced mine is that these clips are teamed with adhesive. So have some double sided tape of you ever take it off!

Just be careful you put it back on securely. You don't want to be like the CT drivers and have parts of your truck flying off while driving down the road.

Mine has come off before for a repair and has never sat properly again. I don't know how many clips were destroyed in the process. It is definitely going to fall off at some point. Be careful ...
