Do you think this repairable using PDR? (Recommend PDR Shops in NJ)

I was hit by a pickup truck in the passenger rear quarter panel. Welcome to NJ, where the state of jug-handles and exits on the left lane. A pickup truck traveling in the right lane suddenly stop short and waited to exit left for the Parkway. He swerved into my lane and damaged my R1S. Thanks to the onboard recording, the entire incident was captured. I showed to the police and the officer agreed that the other driver was at fault. I reported it to my insurance but waiting for the police report. I plan on file against the other driver’s insurance since he was at fault.

Here are my concerns: I call an authorized Rivian repair shop near me and ask for this advice. The repair shop on phone was very nice and explain the entire process with me. He had another R1S customer with similar damages and gave me a rough estimate. The estimate was 4X higher than the online insurance claim app. I am sure this body shop performs high quality work but I much rather restore the original factory paint and etc. He told me that be a Rivian authorized Body shop, he must follow their process which is much more work than traditional.

I called a few PDR guys in NJ and hoping this might be repairable using their method. Does anyone have any good experience with a PDR shop located in Central NJ?

I've used PDR for small dings and it has worked well. I suspect that it will not work for a larger, compound dent like the one that you have, but the only way to know for sure is to ask. As far as getting the body work done, you are free to use any shop that you'd like. Your insurance should pay for the Rivian authorized shop to do the work though.

Good luck.

Nope, PDR isn't going to get that back to original. It looks like the paint is scratched, and there is significant metal that was bent.

Since the other driver was at fault, you should be able to choose where you get the work done, and the other driver's insurance has to pay. I'd run it through my insurance and let them haggle with the other insurance company. There is no reason you should settle for less than a full restoration of the damage at a qualified body repair shop; make the insurance companies do their job.

My R1S was hit in a parking lot in NJ by another vehicle, causing similar damage. I was not at fault, so I filed an insurance claim and dropped it off at a Rivian-certified repair shop. The repair estimate is likely in the range of 15,000–18,000. My total estimated cost is around 18k, paid my deductible 500. The remaining amount will be paid by Insurance. The only drawback is the repair timeline, which is expected to be about 4–5 weeks. They will repair/replace quarter panel, bumper any other damaged parts.
All the best!

Unless the PDR guy is a master, complex dents with crease are no-go. Might be able to get some of it, but not as if nothing happened. Best talk to people who actually do the work and assess.
