This first happened to me back in October, but it has happened a couple of times since, usually 3-4 weeks between occurrences. The tunnel door will pop open on its own, and will sometimes fall open completely. This is while parked; this has never happened while driving. I've only use the tunnel a few times and it has been good. The door latches seem very solid without any weird rattles, and I can see on my home security camera that nobody has pressed the tunnel release buttons.

Never for me either, in 2.5 years of ownership.

Have you put any of the control widgets on your phone screen? Perhaps you're accidentally hitting one ... That's the main reason I don't use widgets - I'm sure at some point I will drop the tailgate against the garage door or something like that in the process of putting my phone in my pocket. Others have done just that ...

The widget I use only allows function of the frunk, climate, and doors. I'll just add this to my service ticket for tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath that they'll find anything.

No. And there are multiple safeguards that are in place to prevent this from happening. Definitely report to service and have them fix it.

1 year in with my 2023 Gen1 R1T and haven’t had that happen. Please let us know what the fix ultimately is. And thanks very much for posting about this!!

There was that guy carrying a compressed gas tank in the gear tunnel of a rental he said he knew was having issues with the gear tunnel door. Tank went skating down the road after a turn and luckily no-one got in the way.

Please, we don't need a repeat of that.

It HAS happened to me. I couldn't figure out what was causing it until one day I was sitting in the car in our driveway and our cat hopped up on the hood, walked over the roof and down to the bed rail where it stepped on the release button as it walked to the back of the truck. That's why it was always happening at home: elsewhere the truck locks automatically, so any random cat can't open the tunnel door.
