I've noticed in a few cases that what I assume are the ultrasonic sensors showing an object is close to the driver's side when nothing is actually there. This happens a few times a week, and I believe only on the driver's side. It's more of an annoyance than anything else as I can continue to drive, but it does ding at me since I use the audio cues when parking.

Has this happened to others?

Yes, I sometimes get the audible warning of a close-by object when the is nothing there.

IR? The little round sensors in the bumpers are ultrasonic. Behind the front fascia and below the middle light bar is a radar. Sensors can give false readings, not a Rivian-specific thing. Luckily the cameras have good coverage to provide a second "opinion".

I just had one replaced due to having a chip right on the edge and it did exactly what you're talking about, so you're going to have about a $400 bill to pay if it's damaged.

I took a video as it was repeatable on mine by going about 10mph, then letting regen take me down to 2-3mph, it would flick on at the closest dark red proximity only. $140 for the sensor $260 labor

Can you provide a screenshot of the bill? I'm awful curious if we can pull off sensors from different parts and just replace ourselves.

I've had this problem on my passenger side, seems to only happen when dusty though.

Noticed this has been happening fairly regularly when first starting a drive on both my 2022 T and my 2023 S. Regularity has increased substantially since the last update (coincidence?). Happens even when the ultrasonic sensors are perfectly clean. It's a minor annoyance and doesn't impact operation but I would be happy if it improves via OTA.

Had this occur the other day in the garage. Wiped the sensors with an alcohol wipe, all good after. There didn't appear to be anything major on the sensors, no giant bugs or anything, but either way, it worked, and no re-occurrence.

I just checked mine that gives the error, indeed there was a giant bug smear that didn't come off in the car wash. All fixed!
