My driver's side interior door handle no longer functions. In order to open the driver's side door, I'm having to lower the window, reach around to the exterior door handle to open, then put the window back up.

Not sure if this is a common issue, the service guide said this is the first complaint they have received. They'll be sending out a mobile technician to fix it in a week. Hopefully I'm not involved in any accidents that require emergently evacuating the vehicle in the near future!

Bummer. Looks like you’ll need to use this method in the meantime ….

They're mechanical. Not unique to Rivian, my 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme had the same problem. Took me months to get around to prying open the door panel to fix the linkage. But I was young then and could still do the "Dukes slide" and dive in the window to get in.

Try that on a Rivian you'd probably buckle the hood, LOL. ?

I see... Is this a common thing to happen to any manufacturer. My experience with vehicles is completely limited to Toyota/Lexus. My cars have been 1992 Corolla, 2000 Celica, 2010 ES-350, 2016 RC-F, 2018 GX460, and now a Rivian R1S. I've literally never had any mechanical or electrical issue with any of these cars.

I am somewhat regretting leaving that family. From the rattles in the dash, to cheap build quality, to the broken door handle. I'm pretty sure this Rivian has solidified my loyalty to Toyota/Lexus.

Watched this show a lot, and really liked these entry scenes. But for some reason, I can't recall how they got out.. which is what OP really needs to master.. Any clips to share?

Not a common thing but a simple fix. Usually just looks like this.
Rivian R1T R1S Door Handle Malfunction Door-latch-rod-clips2-2683308754

I've had Toyotas back to the 1970s and yes they are built like tanks but not all of them. I had an IS350 that had endless problems: Timing gear and fuel system recalls, mirrors that wobbled loose, dash board that turned to a sticky mush in the sun, exterior plastic that rotted within a few years.

You got your R1S before most of us despite having a later order so tough to feel bad for you. Are you looking to sell?

Toyota is far from immune to squeaks and rattles. My Tundra squeaked all over the place until it started to settle after a year of driving. It also never wanted to take an alignment. And the previous one I owned ate water pumps.

One of my BMWs had valvetrain-related issues from day 1 that were never properly diagnosed.

Don’t even get me started on Jeeps. And thank the heavens I have never owned a Land Rover.

Toyota won’t have a Rivian competitor for a while. But if Toyota/Lexus is what you’re into, then go for it.
