Austin to Dallas with a full charge in. Y G1QM Large Battery ?

After a couple of hours of city driving in Austin, I headed back home to the DFW area and I was like "nahh, I can easily make it...". ?

I had to admit, the last 80 miles I had to slow down to 70mph, but I was already passing chargers left and right so I knew I had options in case I would've hit 0% earlier ?

HAH! Yep, I definitely drove like @OutofSpecKyle on my big road trip a couple years ago. Had three times I rolled into the charger on static (the EV equivalent of "fumes") - all three I was in turtle mode, unable to go faster than 20 MPH the last 1/4 mile. One if the charger I had pulled in to had been broken, I would have been completely hosed, as I couldn't even back up to reposition to the neighboring stall. (The stall I pulled in to had the vehicle on the next stall over using my dispenser. I had to wait for them to show up and disconnect to charge, which thankfully was only about 30 seconds later, as I was just realizing I was stuck in that stall.)

LOL!
I didn't get to see the turtle this time! I was thinking about doing a lap around the neighborhood but why tempt the devil, right? :)

Some of you guys are way braver than I am. I get stressed when I have 10% left.
Since the moment I hit 10%, I already had chargers in my path, plenty of them... This looks braver than I really am :) I always had a plan B, C, D ... :)

? I ran my R1T down to 0% and 0 miles displayed. Barely had enough power to keep moving. The Rivian app told me that if the truck stops to call roadside assistance.

10% leaves you enough buffer in case of a non working charger. Running it below 10% regularly could negatively impact the battery life.

There is no actual turtle shown, that's just a common nickname. The "power bar" on the speedometer shrinks as you get lower in charge. By 2%, power is reduced enough that when towing a trailer, you can't get past 30 MPH. By 1%, you're lucky to get above 20 MPH. (I've never gotten that low except when towing.)

Yeah, definitely got the reduced power (half bar or less) but still it was able to get up to speed fairly quickly.

Same here. I have never gone below 13%. Too stressful.
On my first long-haul road trip (Texas to FL), I was exactly like that on the way down. Never less than 12%...

On my way back, I was driving to the bottom of the pack as much as I could. It really optimizes DCFC times ?

Aldo-sounds cool. How fast were you going-80? What was the kpm? What about your FL trip-how long did it take you to charge to 80%, or did you charge more? Cheers.

I agree with you! My wife would like around 50 miles of range left while traveling before charging. Less then 30 she really gets anxious. I do not see the point of pushing it to zero. The equivalent is trying to coast an ice car up to the gas pump. No one does that on purpose do they?
