The OP's image shows a 50% SoC - Rivians don't slow to 40kW until you're maybe 80% SoC.
Also, the subsequent image shows that the rate was limited by the charging station.

Regardless, go for the 150kW chargers and you won't have this issue. All the 150kW EA chargers I've used perform much better than spec - typically reaching ~167kW and in one case as much as 192kW. And the 150kW don't error out like the 350kW sometimes do.
This is ? true. Besides, Rivian obly accepts 150kW anyhow even if in real time you can get up to ~220. Insisting on using the 350kW charger is mostly due to owners not knowing their vehicles and simply thinking more is better…:like you said….the 150kW chargers tend not to have “the same problem”, and you’ll hold steady at a high charging rate

that all said, even though I don’t charge away from home much….i have had zero issues (including crowding) at any EA or ChargePoint DCFC that I’ve gone to

It’s why the old ones have two cables ?. I always switched to the opposite cable and goes back to full power. Direct sun on the cable cover is too much heat when it’s 95+.

agreed on the other day my R1S clocked 200kw on 150kw EA and the BMW guy next to me on 350kw got very less charging rate not sure what’s going behind the scenes internally. Here are some pics I have taken for reference.

It was already explained what’s going on. Those 350kw charger cables get too hot and limit charging. Usually only happens on the old units with the two cables. New ones seem to be better.

Hey! I’ve owned my R1T and love it! I’m already on a road trip and have noticed that every EA charger I’ve stopped at, has started charging really fast and then slowed way down to 41kwh. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal. The RAN and Tesla Superchargers definitely don’t have this issue.

As many have said, and experience, EA chargers are pretty inconsistent.
OP didn’t mention if he did this but just a reminder that preconditioning before charging does help.

Yep. I was in Hood River OR yesterday, drove by the Tesla SC at the Safeway and it was full so went to EA at Walmart they have 3 new 350kW units and an old 150kW combo CCS/Chademo. They were all working but with some quirks, I plugged into station 1 and was getting a steady ~90kW (~10-15% SOC) I think that spot was sharing power with the Lightning charging next to it. When I came back from a quick break and it was still at 90kW I switched to the other open 350, screen was black but it showed live on the app. Initiated fine and gave >200kW and up to 70% in 20 min.

Not ideal but did the job nonetheless. I at no time even considered plugging into the older 150kW CCS/Chademo combo unit, I think I Niro was using it when I pulled in.

As an aside after I left I went over to a different Tesla SC station nearby to try out my new Rivian supplied adapter. It’s great to have options.

I had the exact same thing happen at a brand new EA a couple weeks back… was at a lowish SoC and was jamming along at 200+ kW for a few minutes then got backed down to 41kW. Moved to the next EA stall, exact same thing happened after a few minutes. Had charged earlier that day at a different EA location with no issues. Had the same “limited by charging station” message you saw. Ambient temp in the 70’s… odd.
Yep. Just like what happened to me. One road trip and EA is already on my shit list!

I did precondition. I made sure it was preconditioning en route to all the chargers. RAN and Superchargers, zero issues.
