ICE only :(
Just got an email that EVGo is now charging by kWh in GA instead of the previous time-based charge. It will also have variable rates based on day and time of day. I guess that means GA's new law has taken affect to permit this. More and more states will be moving this direction.

Also means there will be a state tax on EV charging, which is taking effect right as Gov. Kemp is waiving the motor fuel tax "due to inflation"... So EV owners in GA are getting hit even harder relative to ICE owners.

Got the same email for NY a few days ago. Brutal hikes -- costs more than Tesla in most cases and $00.30+ more per kWh vs. other public charging (EA, EVolveNY).

I guess about what I thought but man what a way to alienate waiting customers.
Only one charger at each site can be reserved at any given time. And the site has to have multiple chargers to even allow reservations.

Arizona has alwasy had sales tax on charging, but CA does not.

What is the tax in AZ?

GA's is 26c per 11kWh, randomly enough. We also have a $210.87 EV tag fee. Both of those are theoretically intended to offset the lost revenue from the state motor fuel tax, although it already takes a pretty significant number of miles or really bad mpg to hit $210.87. Oh, and the motor fuel tax has been waived entirely for most of the last 2 years.

Looks like EA hasn’t updated yet. $0.56/kWh on peak is high. If you rolled in at 0 and wanted to charge to full you would be looking at about $70! I also like how it’s every day when in reality utilities typically don’t charge peak on weekends and holidays.

Arizona sales tax varies with county and city, typically between 6% and 10%. Even our monthly electric bills at home have sales tax added. It is not a per kwh tax.

Went on a trip to Morgan city LA to visit family and there is also a sales tax in Louisiana and Mississippi. I make trips from Huntsville AL up to Nashville and they also have a sales tax.

Alabama also has the 100 tag fee for hybrids and 200 for full electric.

I needed a fee miles to make my trip out of town this weekend and wanted to finish my auto-enrollment process so stopped at one. Wow! Total fee for 17kwh was $11.30. Truck says it added 27miles of range. … my wife noted that we paid $11.30 per gallon gas equivalent. It also took a call to customer service to get it to work.

Yikes! For comparison here is mine from enrollment before the fee structure change. At the new rate it would be about $24 before taxes, basically a 600% increase.

Blech! That $0.99 session fee is painful as a % of the total cost. FWIW, if there's any chance of doing 2 sessions with EVGo in the same month, it's worth changing to their Basic tier. That tier is $0.99/month but has $0.00 for the session fee, so even 1 session per month is breakeven. Rate is otherwise the same between Basic and Pay as You Go. It takes 75-80kWh, depending on time of use, to break even on the Plus tier's $6.99 monthly fee.
