Lots of drive modes sound great, but in reality, after 10k miles, about 95% of my driving has been in All Purpose, about 4% in Sport (early Sport mode was rough, but not as rough as Pennsylvania roads), and 1% “other.”. I really wouldn’t be bothered by a reduced number of drive modes for 2 motors.

Sport Mode doesn't actually increase acceleration at all. It just changes suspension and pedal-mapping. If you manually drop the ride height and just fully mash the accelerator pedal, you'll get the same acceleration in All Purpose as in Sport.
This is not true. Torque is limited on All-Purpose as compared to Sport by ~15%.

My Teslas haven't had drive modes and handling in all kinds of conditions has been excellent. Snow, rain, dry, heat, etc. I never have to fiddle with drive modes.
I've even intentionally tried to make them slip in snow, wet, etc. And the car just handles it. Even did some stretches on dirt, gravel and performance was perfect.
Rivian samples wheel spin and suspension parameters 128 times a second in all modes too. The advantage of the the Rivian modes is that it allows you, the driver, to control how some of that vector, torque, and suspension management works. For example, in drift mode and rally mode, torque is shifted to favor to the rear with less vector control so you can get the rear to slide some which is a benefit with some higher speed offroad situations. Snow mode gives you less throttle response and less regen than even the light regen setting. It you don't want to want to take advantage of any of these just leave it in All Purpose.

They have descriptions of the modes, what they do and what their purpose is online. It's pretty intuitive.....Ie "all-purpose", "off road", "snow", "sport". With due respect, if that's too daunting for you, then just leave it in all-purpose with "auto" height adjustment...
Lol, I have two modes on my Lexus and even that's daunting.
