First Time Used Buyer- 39,000 Miles Too Much?

Hello all. Potential new Rivian R1T owner here. I recently found a 2022 Compass Yellow R1T for sale locally through Carmax for $55K and currently have it for a 24 hour test drive. So far, I love the truck. It drives great, no noises or vibrations, just a great ride. It even has the green interior which with the Compass Yellow gives it sort of a 70’s truck vibe which I dig. Very cool looking truck.

Only thing that has me hesitant is the mileage, 39,000 miles. Now I am coming from a Tesla Model Y so I know the mileage of a used EV is nothing like the wear similar miles would have on an ICE vehicle. I guess I am just looking for a bit of reassurance from current R1T owners that my purchase is a smart one.

I wouldn't hesitate. That's about the same residual left on my R1T at the end of my 36 month lease and I plan on buying the lease on this.

It's arguably in the best color (even though I have a blue), and if everything appears in working order, I'd go for it.

The stuff that breaks on these trucks doesn't hide - it just happens. So if it shakes down properly, there's nothing lurking waiting to bankrupt you (plus, you get the longer warranty with the quad motor).

I traded mine in for a new one with 40K but it wasn’t at all because of reliability. There is a 60k mile bumper to bumper on that year R1 and 175k mile power train warranty.

Like any performance vehicle out of warranty repairs are expensive but you can make a lot of those for the money you’ll save on that one.

I am also considering Carmax’s MaxCare warranty. 125k miles or 60 months for $2500. I’ve heard from a few people how good their MaxCare warranty is, including from my buddy that is in the auto warranty business.

Still tons of warranty left and the first owner has probably worked through the teething issues.

Perfect mileage to buy IMO.

I was also looking at a Launch Edition in LE Green for $5K more but only 17K miles. I really like the Yellow but 22,000 fewer miles is a plus.

You won’t regret it. I just got a LE R1S with even more miles and it drives like it’s new. They’re excellent vehicles and while service can take some time, I have found it to be an incredibly positive experience with our Gen2 R1T and now with our used R1S which we have a complimentary pre-60k warranty service inspection coming up for.

That's low mileage for an EV since there are fewer moving parts. Compare your Rivian warranty before going with Car Max. They are good but it may be overkill.

That's a great color but I'd say to many miles. I've seen some with 10K miles for $60-62K
