Yet another fastback crossover design. I'm sure it will be all the rage but that doesn't work for me. Aside from being electric and riding on an amazing platform that should be a blast to drive, the thing I love the most about the R1S is that it is truly a box on wheels. No sloped rear glass lopping off valuable cargo space.

Agreed, crossover is not for me either.

As much as I love the Rivian design, I'm having a hard time justifying spending 50% more for a R1S when the Mach-E would suit my needs just fine. I won't make a final decision until the full specs and price list are available for both, but right now I think I'd lean towards the Ford.

I feel the same way.. The Rivian is my top pick but it's just outside of my comfortable price range.. so I feel torn. I may stay with normal cars until the used Rivians are affordable or the right EV comes out at the right price.

To argue this vehicle does the job over an R1T means the driver doesn’t need the full skill set of the R1T in the first place.

I live in the country. I have for 20 years now. This Mustang will not handle the snow covered roads where we used to live or the rain covered roads where we currently live.The clearance will not manage the backwoods roads and trails we drive regularly. The Mustang is pretty, but so is the R1T.

Personally I have no problem justifying the price on the R1T because with our use, we will be getting our money’s worth. The R1T will last 15 years for us despite our heavy use and then the batteries will become home power storage. I have wanted a truck but could not justify the gas mileage for 20 years. My wife is excited about the R1T. She snickered at the Mustang.

Yes. Mustangs are not intended for carrying stuff, they are sporty people haulers. If you need the capacity of an Odyssey, a Mustang cannot fulfill that role.

The whole package of the truck, the Mustang, or the Odyssey includes the clearance, the distance, the storage, and the towing. Again, if the Mustang works for you, cool. But to argue it is a fair equivalent to the R1T or even an Odyssey indicates the buyer doesn’t need all the features and is therefore buying more vehicle than they would utilize if they are buying the truck and getting exactly what they need with the Mustang at a lower price. This truck will have more clearance than our Subaru, better towing than our van, more storage than either vehicle, and will not need to be charged outside our home more than twice a year saving us essentially our entire current gas budget. The Mustang would need considerably more storage, space for our dog and two kids, and the ability to tow different trailers depending on the trip. Perhaps they will get there. But the Mustang feels like a city person’s crossover suv just like many of those on the market. The R1T will be taking us down forest roads and through mountain passes. To each their own, but the pricing is not out of line for the newer technology, a newer company, and the feature-set being offered.

At first I was sort of excited when the Mach E was unveiled but then I find out it will not be build here in the US but instead in Mexico, together with the legacy dealership structure that will be selling them (all the haggling with the salesmen and managesr, and finances, turned me off completely...

Ford Mach E was never my choice, and when they handed over it to the Mexicans, they declined. The Tesla Model Y is much preferable. They are capable of holding hefty loads.

I don't like Mach E due to the fact that they will be produce solely in Mexico and sold through regular legacy dealerships where they have no clue how and what BEVs and and will rape you on the prices since 1st year production is limited. I much prefer the Model Y from Tesla

While I was hoping to see Rivian's ordering system first, the release of additional First Edition Mach Es has prompted me to order one now. I still would love to own a Rivian some day, but it will likely be a few years down the road unless they really surprise me with the price.
