Well I guess it was my turn
49,904 miles with no issues and now it’s at the service center
had the truck loaded and level 2 charged to 95% to make it home to Chattanooga
get in, buckle up, step on the brake to shift into drive, and get these warnings
nothing over the last week or so gave any indication of problems
only “perceived issue” was a couple of weeks ago when it was very cold and the motor temps jumped up when super charging (read the manual dummy ?)
did a hard reset and got the same errors
talked to roadside service and shut down everything for a 1 hour sleep
restarted after an hour and got the same errors again
also dropped into kneel mode and wouldn’t let me raise up to move to a location more suitable for the tow truck
Driving in kneel mode shakes it like running over continuous rumble strips
it was picked up and taken to Franklin SC
don’t know anything yet other than they are currently running diagnostics
I’m on 2024.51.01 also

Ugh. Sorry you have to deal with this. I guess if we want to find a bright side, it’s better that it happened now vs at 60k miles. I hope it’s something simple and they can get you back on the road soon.

Very sorry to hear that! Will be following very closely.

Curious: what is in the manual regarding supercharging in the cold?
I guess it was on here rather than the manual
IIRC- not pre-conditioning in cold weather with a cold battery may lead to the heating the motors into the yellow/orange zone with a reduced kWh going to the battery
no warning error message was displayed either

“I guess it was my turn”. Funny how we all know these vehicles are un-reliable as hell yet here we are…..

Still beats my previous Ram 1500 that I had to replace the engine and transmission
edit to clarify - and that was with only 127k miles

Hopefully SC has me scheduled March 4 but they said they were already running diagnostics

That’s a bit concerning. I have had several charger stops that the Rivian nav did not recognize as such and did not precondition the battery for. With no way to manually pre-condition, what does one do in that case?

This case was straight user error on my part for not getting it pre-conditioned
Did it at a Tesla SC and then at a ChargePoint

Just curious, did you fast charge after sitting outside in the cold for a while?

If you were on a trip and stopped to Supercharge pre-conditioning would help a little but it is not harmful if you do not. If everything is working properly the BMS will limit charge and warm battery while charging.

I think the hot batteries were a symptom of a pending issue and not caused by not pre-conditioning.

Yes
It was that cold snap that hit pretty much everyone a couple of weeks back. Now that you made me think about it a little more and look for pictures (date stamped):

It was MLK Day. The wife stayed in Chattanooga, but I had to go back to Huntsville. If she had travelled back also I would have had access to free level 2 charging at her work.

The Tesla supercharger is about 5 miles from my work. I went by on my way back to the apartment. Charging speed was limited so I put it off until the next morning. Got in a hurry that morning and didn't pre-condition to the supercharger. The supercharger is only 1.5 miles from the apartment.

I don't have a picture but IIRC the battery was in the upper 30's to low 40's on the way to the charger. The charge was definitely limited but it was warming the motors instead of the batteries. The rear motors hit 260 F and front motors hit 300 F so I stopped charging.

Called service and they had me do a "hard reset" - resumed supercharging with temps down a little but much better charging speed. Once I unplugged things cooled off pretty quickly with motor temps 120 to 140 and battery at 70 F.

This all seems like normal behavior except the error code. Maybe the motors got a bit too warm but I know when I hit up a charger in the cold my motors did the same thing although getting up to only around 235 max.

Did you get any warnings when the motors were hot? If anything I wonder if the hard reset you did made it where the motors kept running or had more issues.
