All persons presumed innocent until proven otherwise. Defamation, liability. That's probably why.
Nonsense. Showing an undoctored video (otherwise known as evidence) of an unknown person isn't defamation. Calling someone, by name, a thief - that could be defamation.

Or for privacy and protection, company policies in place for good reasons, etc.

So the argument between what I said and you replied is essentially semantics at best, or else potato, potahto.

Correct, and the operative word is “could”. If you have direct evidence of them stealing, such as video footage, then it’s not defamation. The central issue of a defamation or libel lawsuit is whether or not the person making the statement believes it to be true.

So if I witness someone stealing from me, and have the video evidence to support it, the person in question would lose their lawsuit. It’s also important to note that suing someone incurs cost, and most lawyers aren’t going to take a libel action against someone on contingency so the person suing would need to pay their attorney to file. Even if the person orchestrating the lawsuit was an attorney and representing themselves, it’s still not risk free because the defendant often counter sues for their incurred costs.

If person X sues person Y for libel and fails to prove their case they could wind up paying for person Y’s costs in addition to their own. Plus, in order to win a defamation suit you need to prove and quantify harm. So you need to prove both that the party lied AND that the lie caused you financial harm.

I’m pretty sure the above is correct but I am not a lawyer and nothing here constitutes legal advice.

Also true. Most of the time when someone’s face is blurred it’s out of an abundance of caution or company policy. News organizations have deep pockets and that makes them a target for lawsuits, blurring the face ensures they have no liability even if it’s highly unlikely posting the raw footage would incur liability

Because, I would imagine, this video has been passed from the Rivian owner, to the police, to the news media, it could have been either the police or the TV station that made the decision to blur it - as is their prerogative. We would like to see it unblurred. I will concede the point that either of those organizations, could have decided against that (based on policies, or on legal or PR considerations - and an abundance of caution).

I too concede that what I originally said was not quite accurate, and that it is likely that the face blurring is the CYA attitude and precautions that organizations showing videos take. I bet that there is a site somewhere that has the original video as is.

GearGuard is just as good as Tesla Sentry Mode.
No it's not. Sentry mode is better than any other system recording system in a vehicle.

It is continuous recording even while parked while most others are not. Tesla is the only one that can guaranteed record events whereas gear guard only detects pedestrians.

Sentry is also 6 cameras with lower distortion. You can view and download the clips from your phone.

Clips are also not 30 seconds. They are 10 minutes long and due to continuous recording show before the event triggers.

Not blurring a face helps prove innocence as in, "see, it wasn't me." Versus, "yea i own those shoes too but it wasnt me."
