Gear Guard Motion Cam video error issue

Recently I noticed Gear Guard Motion Cam has stopped working properly on my Gen 2 R1S. Events still get “captured”, but the video thumbnails all just show up as “Video error” and are unplayable.

Motion Cam uses internal storage, so this has nothing to do with external SSD/SD card storage. Attempting to copy the videos in question to external storage just results in a useless stub file that’s a couple hundred bytes. The same issue happens with both automatically and manually captured Motion Cam videos.

I’m running 2025.06.30. I don’t know exactly when the issue started (my car was in airport parking for two weeks), so I can’t say if the issue showed up with the latest software update, or was somewhat before or after. I tried both soft and hard resets, but neither fixed it. I’ve seen a few folks on the Rivian subreddit mention what sounds like the same issue. Anyone else here seeing this issue?

This was happening to me right after I picked up the truck at the factory. I called support and they "reset my connection to the cloud". After that newly recorded video played fine - the old ones still showed errors. I have no idea what the 'connection to the cloud' has to do with that local recording.

same here and i have mobile coming next week but will try the reset to cloud today and report back. mine was off and on like this from delivery in Dec and is worse after last update. oddly at home well within wifi range it is the worst while around town with no way of being connected, it sometimes works.......

Same here
Was glitchy and spotty from delivery and after last update more so
Support first set up mobile but then changed it to drop off service in May
Will try the reset to cloud in meantime

Is the “reset to cloud” something I can do, or does Rivian service have to get involved?

Don’t know on that you can do yourself
But as owner of both a 22 quad r1t and newer Tri I see the personalities ofcc v ea “computer” . It’s not a bad or error item, it’s a cutting edge vehicle and has the same quirks as any cutting edge device.

will say that 22 gen 1 quad w meridian is by far and some the most impressive vehicle I’ve owned and every driven. Bar non

The little things will be adjusted over tone. Or not. :). I’m a believer that a Gen 2 R1T w Meridian will crush any and all trucks suv or any vehicle on the road

interesting I always had video error issue with gear guard. that is very interesting it's dependent on connection to cloud. I think I had noticed I experienced those video errors less when I am connected to Wifi. so many it does have reliance on cloud connection oddly.

Nvm I’m still plagued by this even on wifi

works 50% of the time - also the videos don’t even show up when I get into my car. Only shows up after a drive

Ugh, this happened to me earlier this week. Someone scratched our R1S and when I went to look at the videos, everything from that day was “Video Error.” All other days are working fine :(

I reported it with SC, and provided them screenshot, please do the same @R1Yes
Hopefully they can fix it in next OTA.

2025 Gen 2 R1T (1 month old) with same issue. Tried two different drives including a brand new 1 TB SSD with high rates (1050 MB/Sec) and even when manually triggering recording it just gives a red exclamation mark when the recording finishes. All events show error - will submit ticket and hope for next OTA update.

Most of my videos just say "Video Error". I am using a Samsung external drive that I used without issue for 19 months on my Gen1 R1T. This Gen2 is buggy.
