Recently I noticed Gear Guard Motion Cam has stopped working properly on my Gen 2 R1S. Events still get “captured”, but the video thumbnails all just show up as “Video error” and are unplayable.
Motion Cam uses internal storage, so this has nothing to do with external SSD/SD card storage. Attempting to copy the videos in question to external storage just results in a useless stub file that’s a couple hundred bytes. The same issue happens with both automatically and manually captured Motion Cam videos.
I’m running 2025.06.30. I don’t know exactly when the issue started (my car was in airport parking for two weeks), so I can’t say if the issue showed up with the latest software update, or was somewhat before or after. I tried both soft and hard resets, but neither fixed it. I’ve seen a few folks on the Rivian subreddit mention what sounds like the same issue. Anyone else here seeing this issue?
