Hi Everyone,

I am interested in buying a Rivian R1S and found one with low miles for $76k. It is a 2023 quad with large battery (production date Nov 2023). Apparently, the original owner has multiple cars and didn't drive this much. It would be from a reputable dealer but not a Rivian dealer. Is there anything that I should look out for? Is it a good deal?

The interior has the white seats but from what I read that shouldn't be a major issue.

Thanks!

The white seats are great, particularly in summer heat.

There are quite a few delivery guides (inspection sheets) floating around these forums, other forums, reddit, the discord, etc. Get one and use it.

That said, you're within practically all of the warranties (except maybe the 12 month NVH, but I wouldn't sweat it). And Rivian will take care of you like their own.

If it's within your budget and spec and you're keen on it, go for it! Once you initiate the buying/transfer process, you'll be talking to Rivian anyway to digitally transfer ownership. At that point, you can request to schedule an inspection so a Mobile Service tech can give it a once-over to put your mind at ease. The only caution I'd give is that depending on the locale you're in, it could take up to a couple of months to get someone out. But again--I really wouldn't sweat it.

Good luck to you!

I have a '23 R1S with the "white" interior. It still looks new. It sounds like a good deal. I'd post the link, if you can so that we can give you more/better feedback. All the best.

I have an Aug 2023 Quad that I got from CarMax for $73K, it had 350mi.

yes, I’d say you’re getting a decent deal but you didn’t mention how many miles it has. I still see Quads with sub 1K miles on CarMax and Carvana for less than what you’re paying so you may be able to get a lower mileage car for a little less with patience.

Your main issue is the adjustment warranty which is now expired for all 2023 models. The Quad you’re considering likely has the same issues as mine:

-sunken hood
-B pillar bulge
-passenger door rubbing fender
-passenger side wind noise
-alignment

These issues are covered under the 1 yr adjustment warranty which was still active when I purchased my R1S last year. I had all these issues corrected for free. If the first owner never dealt with these things you’ll either have to live with them or spend thousands to have them corrected.

That's the one that I posted above. I'm interested in it but they won't drop the price and are giving me a low number on my trade
Oh, duh!

that’s really low miles, not sure you’ll do much better than that.

I have an August built 2023 quad which, according to what I read on this forum, has many of the Gen 2 improvements. If so, at that price with almost no miles, would make it the sweet spot for a R1S purchase. I’ve had mine for 18 months (with white seats) and can’t imagine a nicer car.

I have none of these issues with my R1S, sorry to hear about your troubles.

what’s your vin? These are very, very common issues. Most Rivian’s have at least a few of these quirks. They’re all fairly minor and honestly I think most people just don’t notice them as they’re fairly subtle. However, Rivian will correct them if you ask….

What do you think of this one? Looks like March 2023 date, has an open recall but doesn’t seem major

My concern with that one is the very low vin (4810.) It’s almost a 2022 so unless the previous owner had lots of parts replaced, it certainly has all the older suspension components (dampers, air springs, subframe, etc) which are prone to ride quality issues, clunking, etc. it’s not till vin 13000 or so that they started using the updated Gen 2 suspension components.

Not the end of the world but I’d get a later one if possible….
