Just got off the phone with Rivian service about an issue with my Highway Assist no longer working on any road (worked on every highway in town before) and the Rivian guy said it could be their maps, and added that their early release/beta users are actively testing with Google Maps!

WAHOOOO!!!!

Sorry I don't have more detail though... :-(
Was this with one of the Service Centers? Reason I ask, I just got off the phone with CS via Chat and they knew nothing.

Testing doesn’t mean it’s definitively going to be implemented.

While I hope it is implemented, this is merely speculation. The title of this thread is overly enthusiastic and very misleading.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Also, there's a difference between arial imagery, map data, and POI search.
That my response to everything that CS supposedly says. They might be testing it in a few vehicles just to see how they can improve their nav systems.

Yes it was. This was following a regional service manager call regarding my issue.

I asked for more details, and all I got was a high level of confidence that it was likely.

EDIT: I changed the title a tad... ;-)

Google lets OEMs search for places for free because they want users’ search data: it reveals a user’s location (or intended location), lets them rank restaurants, and show busyness information. And they can show you ads in the results (promoted places).

Google turn-by-turn directions offer less added value to Google (some real time traffic data, but they can get that from Android phones). They already have your destination from place search. Thus, I believe they don’t let OEMs use it unless they’re running Android Automotive (not to be confused with Android Auto). That said, Rivian does in fact run Android Automotive, just without the full Google experience, including Google Play (the App Store plus misc. services). Maybe that’s enough? I suspect not.

Being Android-based is not the same thing as Android Automotive.

I would love, Love, LOVE if Rivian went full Android Automotive + GAS like Polestar and Volvo. Google’s voice recognition and navigation are amazing.
