I was thinking about this as well. I was looking at the Expel version that matches my PPF manufacturer, at about the same price. seems like a lot, but a lot less than if I get a crack and need to replace.. ON the fence but think it's a good idea

Plastic scratches easier than glass so not sure how that will hold up in areas that get rain/snow. Also the short 1 year warranty should tell you all you need to know about longevity. I'll just let my insurance glass coverage handle it if/when needed.

Expel comes with a much longer warranty and it's PPF, so it's self-healing in the sunlight and crystal clear visability

Any issues with ppf being scratched by dry wiper blades? Inevitably my wife will leave wipers in the auto setting then the wipers move every time truck turns on. Rain or no rain.

PPF is generally made from a self-healing PTFE. So long as you don't EGREGIOUSLY scratch it (read: intentionally mar it), it should heal in sunlight (or worst case with a heat gun) the same way the PPF on your vehicle would otherwise.

I've had (a now discontinued) windscreen PPF for 2.3 years now. My installer expected I would be replacing it once every 3 years or so. I'm on track for that. And I have every intention of replacing it with the new best thing.

The number of times my windscreen has been absolutely smattered with stones, rocks, giant bugs, etc, and I thought FOR SURE I'd have a chip/crack/scratch (and with a few exceptions of some pretty bad divots in the PTFE itself): nada. Windshield glass itself is pristine.

Has been installed for over a year. Has taken several serious shots from flying rocks. I'm sold. I had it installed on my Tesla as well.

I've also heard good things about Exoshield.
Bray is the other brand that my installer is highly recommending.

I installed Exoshield on my truck and it was good for about a year and a half. It definitely took several hits and it saved the windshield but eventually I got two separate chips/cracks in a four month period. It also started scratching quite a bit from the wiper blades, and the visibility was not the best.

If anyone installs a skin on their windshield, I would highly recommend using some ceramic coating as well.

Where does one go to get this protective film installed? What’s a typical price? Does typically using an ice scraper in the winter rule this out?

Getting my windshield replaced next week for $1700-$1900, and hoping to mitigate this in the future.

i have the same ExoShield.... about 1 year now and i dropped by the installer, they were surprised at all my "rock chips" in a year but the film is holding up, no issues, need to re-apply ceramic coating on it again at some point
