Some highway off-ramps have signs displaying weight restrictions. On a few occasions I’ve noticed warnings indicating my vehicle weight is over the required limit. Has anyone noticed this?

I consider those signs are for commercial vehicles only.

Where have you seen that? What weights are they saying?

Pretty much every 3/4 ton (class 2b) and up pickup, are the curb weight of a Rivian (and up from there). 1/2 ton & all large SUV have GVW approaching Rivian; 3/4 tons and up are all 10k lbs and up

Agreed. That’s why I’m asking. I saw this here in NY when exiting a highway ramp entering another. The specific weight was not displayed, just a warning about exceeding it. If I remember next time I will take a pic.

Google Maps helped narrow down the area where the ramp is. I was able to view the road signs currently in place which state “no commercial vehicles”. The actual digital sign that warned me doesn’t appear via Google Maps 2024 views. Perhaps the digital sign was not In place.

AI states:
“In New York, a non-commercial vehicle, such as a pickup truck, can be registered as a passenger vehicle if its unladen weight is 6,000 pounds or less and it is used exclusively for non-commercial purposes. If the unladen weight exceeds 6,000 pounds, it must be registered as a commercial vehicle.“

The Rivian and many other non-commercial SUVs exceed this weight.

That pertains to the required weight fee paid on the registration renewal.
Only vehicles under 6,000 can be registered as exempt from the fee.
