I have an RT-1 . Went to pick up a friend from the airport. Range at start was 250 miles (80% charge). Airport was 37.4 miles away. Temps were in the low teens. I waited in pickup lot for about an hour. Truck was in "snow" mode. Total trip was 74.8 miles. Returned home to a range of 109 miles. A loss of range of 141 miles for a 75-mile trip. Wait time in pickup lot? "Snow" mode?

Any comments?
Thanks,

Doesn't seem off to me. Snow mode reduces regen a lot, and i'm assuming temps were quite cold if you were in snow mode to begin with so heating the truck while sitting will use some range for sure.

The problem lies in how EVs use range to reflect what is in reality energy storage. It’s no different than if you idled your ICE truck for an hour, you’re using stored energy/gas to provide heat rather than range driven.

My gasoline powered Dodge Ram 1500 also got junk mileage in the winter, especially if I would idle the engine for an hour. During the summer, I averaged 16 mpg and during the winter, it might be closer to 13 mpg. That’s a 19% range loss in the winter that we have just learned to accept.

What was your efficiency for the trip?

How fast were you going? Do you normally drive on highways or usually a city driver?

What's a RT-1? Is this forum turning into facebook and instagram where we just tell people what happened in our day and ask for a reaction?

Shouldn’t matter, snow mode or 2PD, recovers energy when you brake within the regen limits of the vehicle while 1PD recovers energy when you back off the throttle. As there are conversion losses converting your speed back into energy not incurred during 2PD, 2PD should be slightly more efficient.

This Road & Track article sheds some light on the subject but it is up to the vehicle to avoid unnecessary friction braking and regen.
