Bought a used 23 Quad motor Large Pack with a Model Y as trade. UI seems a bit more visual than the Tesla, seats are 100% more comfortable, I love the auto open/close frunk, everything works, and garage setup was free vs Tesla and easier than expected to setup. However I got some questions...

  • Is tonneau cover a thing? I see rail and box at the end of the bed with a rubber lip. Dealership didn't give me a window sticker and I couldn't find any matches on the Rivian site, so am I just stuck with an empty box and rails?

  • Accidentally found a speaker under the armrest but some stuff doesn't work - I press every button, only the mute lights up orange with a line through it, the bulb button on the back does nothing. I was able to pair with my phone and sound is great. Can it play music from the truck too?

  • Tires are brutish! And loud LOL! Any opinions on the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 - I'm 99% street/highway driving?

  • Also, why on Tire Rack does that same tire increase by $35 after I enter vehicle info?

  • Rivian support couldn't get me connected to the vehicle because that dept doesn't work on weekends, so no phone unlocking. Vehicle didn't include fobs, only a card. Fobs are hellish expensive $250 on the Rivian site. Is it worth buying?

Post a pic of your buttons near the tailgate, that'll tell us for sure if you have one. But it looks like you do.

Accidentally found a speaker under the armrest but some stuff doesn't work - I press every button, only the mute lights up orange with a line through it, the bulb button on the back does nothing. I was able to pair with my phone and sound is great. Can it play music from the truck too?
It cannot play music from the truck, just phone or other Bluetooth senders. Speakers are meh, more of a gimmick than actually useful. Mine lives in a corner of our cabin collecting dust, I have a drawer in my Rivian there.

Tires are brutish! And loud LOL! Any opinions on the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 - I'm 99% street/highway driving?
99% of reviews here are positive, only issues I've seen are poor tech balancing skills. If you're all pavement, they're perfect for you. They are my next AS tire choice.

Also, why on Tire Rack does that same tire increase by $35 after I enter vehicle info?
It defaults to 275/65R20 when you plug in Rivian info, that's the same diameter as the stock AT tires. The 275/60R20 work great, meet load index requirements, and will be more efficient. They will be 1" less diameter, so the truck sits 1/2" lower. To each their own, I run 275/60R20s in both AT and AS.

Rivian support couldn't get me connected to the vehicle because that dept doesn't work on weekends, so no phone unlocking. Vehicle didn't include fobs, only a card. Fobs are hellish expensive $250 on the Rivian site. Is it worth buying?
It should've come with a carabineer fob and 2 cards for that model year. I personally only use the fob, I had bad PAAK issues with my old phone, so now it's just a habit. Again, to each their own.

Keep the questions coming, we're here to help and vicariously enjoy a new (to you) Rivian!

Look at your rear, driver bed rail. It either has 1 button or 2. IF one, no power bed cover.

Never used my speakers so can’t comment on that.

For the tires, the reason you see the price different is you are comparing 2 different tire sizes. The OEM is the more expense…the less expensive one is slightly smaller and many in this forum run that smaller size.

the key fob is subjective. Either people use it or they don’t. Up to you.

Looked and yeah only 1 button :(

So with that out of the way, and again this is my first Rivian, are there any aftermarket options that fit into the existing space?

Just weird they built what looks like a cabinet and added railing for something that isn't available.

I looked again and now see where the second tire listing shows "116H XL." Thanks.

Ok, so you're confirming the 275/65R20 116H XL from Tire Rack will properly fit? I'm kind of a sucker for wider tires.

As to the fobs, previous owner likely lost or tossed them - all the dealer gave me was a single card.

275/65R20 matches the OEM tires, so yes they will fit.

IRT width, it's the same width as 275/60R20, 275mm. Do you mean "fatter" or "meatier?" The aspect ratio for the sidewall is 5% or 13.75mm greater, so yes the 275/65R20 are thicc'er.

I doubt they "tossed" the fob, as you said it's $250. They probably just sold online for dough. I'm surprised they only gave you one card though, you should definitely get a backup.

Re: tonneau. Rivian makes a manual tonneau cover for it that you should be able to buy through the gear shop. There are also tons of third party covers - I googled up “rivian tonneau cover” and there were half a dozen options on the first page. No personal experience with these, as I’ve got the electric one.

Enjoy your truck!

I would definitely recommend Interrobang - have had it installed for over a year now and looks OEM and is super simple to install and store, with the optional bag, in your gear tunnel. Also comes in handy when you only want to remove one panel to have something snug back there that is higher than the ceiling. Definitely a great buy and from what I've heard on here, a lot better than Rivian's manual cover.

I'm so used to just walking up and leaving using the PAAK I sometimes forget on my other cars to lock using the fob. That said id get a Fob as I bring it if I know someone else like a valet needs to drive it. Have you seen the cost of most vehicles to rekey a fob? Usually have to go to a dealer if you don't have one already and $250 is probably in market range for replacement and programming. Welcome to our community and Rivian. Have you found the secret compartments under the front seats? Great for sunglasses and such.

You should also go into settings and security/access and remove whichever keys are not in your possession of the dealer didn't do that. Just make sure you don't unpair the key you do have! They are labeled with a number in faint text.
