Now that I’ve joined the club , I’m doing a little spring recon.
do I need anything special to move my saris mtr rack over to my r1t ?
I’ve heard longer bolts maybe or an extender ?
What’s the details?

thanks !

I have the 4 bike saris rack that’s probably about 8 years old. I found that I couldn’t secure the bolt because of the recessed nature of the Rivian’s hitch. I ended up getting the Kuat Pivot. I use the Rivian bed bike pad for short journeys and the Saris for camping trips when the bed is filled with stuff. It is really nice to be able to swing the bikes out of the way and drop the tailgate.

Probably have the same rack then. I was worried about it not fitting. Thanks for the info much appreciated

No problem, glad it was helpful. I also tried a hitch extender, it would have worked but it felt a little bouncy and I realized that I wanted the utility of being able to swing out the loaded bike rack. The reviews for the Pivot are all over the place but mine has worked well for me.

I just ordered the Rocky Mounts Guiderail and curious what y’all have found to be the best theft deterrent in an effort to keep your racks from being stolen? I understand a determined thief will find a way but would like to make sure I at least put something in their way.

RockyMounts SplitRail with no extension, doesn't rub up or down. It's secured with the standard pin lock which has never been a problem for the last 10 years (on a 4Runner previously) here in the Boulder CO area. Basically looks like this.

My Quikr Mach 2 is going strong. Solid as a rock. One of the best things about it is its modularity. I normally have 2 bike trays installed and add another 1 or 2 when needed. But installing or removing the rack entirely takes only about 90 seconds when it’s set up with 2 trays, because it’s not so heavy and unwieldy in that configuration. As a result, I regularly take it off/put it back on for a short time.
@J-Flo , are you using any hitch extender with your Mach2, given that R1S hitch receiver is recessed?

Thank you!

I also have a Mach2. No hitch extender. The mach2 sits very snugly against my R1S, but keeps my big-handlebar bike plenty far away.

I have an oldie-but-goodie Thule T2 on my R1S. I used to use the T2 for years on my much smaller vehicles (1.25" receiver) with no issue (but the weight of it on smaller cars is noticeable). Years ago I bought one new for $400+ which was a bit crazy but that's how much these quality racks are brand new. I picked this one up from FB Marketplace (2" receiver) for $80 which was a steal. Amazing condition too vs. others in the <$150 range.

On the R1S, it is of course not noticeable at all. Easily fits two bikes and with the rack extended, you're able to lower the lower portion of the hatch/liftgate and there's plenty of clearance.

With the bike rack folded up, there is at least a couple of inches from the plastic wheel holder to the rear of the vehicle.

It is certainly a bit hefty, but I have no problem taking it on and off when I need to transport the bikes. I have it hanging in the garage out of the way when not in use.

I wish I had more closeup pictures of the clearances but I didn't see this post until today. If anyone is interested in more pics, let me know.
