I've had my Rivian R1T since 2023 and it has less than 50,000 miles. I've noticed that people think I'm whiny for complaining about 9 service events. I call them service events because most of them had multiple service items. There have actually been 27 items according to Rivian. That includes courtesy inspections and recalls. Is this normal for EV's now?

there's nothing magic about the number 9. perhaps if you shared details of the things requiring service, we could more effectively pass judgement on your whininess.

Yes need a brief list of what was fixed. Courtesy inspection or tire rotation does not count.

In 50k miles a decently maintained Ice vehicle one would have 7-8 oil changes, 10 tire rotations, brake fluid, and 5-10 inspections while in for service. Compared to that 9 for an EV from a new manufacturer doesn't seem out of line.

I would say yes 9 is normal ... Considering a startup auto manufacturer and their first model, one should expect a lot of things which need to be adjusted/corrected. Look at what Tesla went through with its first mass-produced model. Look at what Lucid is going through. Go back and look at Toyota when they first tried to enter the US market in 1957. Autos are by far the most complex man-made mass-produced product on the planet. With over 20,000 parts/assemblies and all the points of interconnection, there are bound to be design issues. Then you have to figure out how to assemble all these parts efficiently on an assembly line. Unless you have worked in auto engineering or assembly it's hard to fathom how complex and difficult it is.

The Rivian Gen 2 is significant improvement over gen 1. A well-run business will learn from past experience.

IMO not normal, but how many were for actual issues? I have a 2022 Bronco and 2022 R1T. Bronco has low miles so it only sees the dealer yearly for an oil change, tire rotation and state inspection, currently they've been the dealer the same amount times, just the Bronco only had 1 actual issue that needed to be fixed (well, and 3 open recalls lol).
My R1T had a good track record of only 1 service visit until August last year, where I had stint of 3 visits and $10k worth of warranty work done in a 3 month timeframe. Seems to be good now, or so I'm hoping.

The 27 items doesn't count oil changes and tire rotations.

Have you not changed your oil? Can’t wait to see your next thread discussing how your engine overheated!
I did, on my ICE vehicles. Not with any of my EVs, though...

I think if we are all being logical and not repeating the line, “Rivian is a new company.. blah, blah”, no is the answer to any vehicle being serviced that much. To me there is some value in that line, but at some point one has to decide, “no mas”. In the end I may be more willing to stay the course and you, apparently not.

Since this is another post you make about your issues. What is your goal? Get pity from others, support. Shouldn’t you do what PLEASES you and your familia. Not seek what others think, to then decide how to live your vida/life.

Get rid of the vehicle if you are not happy, feel unsafe or not properly supported by Rivian. Go buy that electric caddy.

Starting a second thread on this same topic is the definition of whiny.
