While having my tires changed this morning I had a chance to check out out the suspension components. my right read shock was quite dark and appeared covered in a thin oily film. left shock by comparison looks almost new.

vehicle is 2.5 years old 31k miles.

figure i can contact support but wondered if other folks that had shocks replaced under warranty looks this bad or not.

having just posted i guess it could also be a cv joint that blew and splattered grease? i dont think mine has ever been replaced though.

it’s all this dark stuff covering the shock. the other one is silver and you can clearly read the manufacturer part label

Either that or it's grease being flung from the CV boot/joint. Did you check that? While still under warranty, I would submit a service request and include pictures/notes. Given that first available appt. could be months away and they may not be able to work on your car the day you bring it in. Sooner you get in the process the better.

My R1S has a CV boot leaking now. There is grease splattered all over the place around the wheel.

The boot on the CV joint would have a tear in it if it was flinging grease. I agree you'd also have grease around the wheel well if the boot was defective.

Looks to me like a leaking shock.
