Congrats!

South SF represent!

I don't follow you, sorry, are you in the queue for a replacement tonneau?

Also, where do you plan to take it first - up to the mountains or ocean?
Well, it’s home here by the ocean now. But we’re heading up to the Sierras over turkey day.

Looks great Mike! I am picking up mine tomorrow (identical config!!!). The service manager called me this morning and said I could pick it up today at 4pm if I wanted but it is pouring rain here now and I don't want to drive with crazy SoCal drivers in rush hour traffic in the heavy rain so I am keeping my 10:30 tomorrow pick up. He did tell me that there was a problem with the tonneau and it is currently retracted and they deactivated it via software so I cant mess with it. They said I am in queue for a retrofit when they get the new design pieces in the shop.

They weren’t specific, but the hardware is actually in the cover, but without slats so it can’t be opened or closed. The motor is disabled (presumably via software).

I wasn’t given the option to de-configure the tonneau to either N/A or Manual. Just got the automatic tonneau without the tonneau. LOL
Unclear how they’re going to deal with it, but here’s what I actually see (no slats, but clearly the retraction hardware is in place):

The thick plottens! My how the turn tables.

i‘d get a strip of closed cell foam or something to put in that opening. Especially so near the sea.

Oh wow - you got considerably better information than I did, thank you!

Took delivery this morning at the South SF SC. I’m still kind of in shock that it’s real, but my god it’s pretty.

A couple of delivery notes:
  • South SF is extremely efficient. I could have been in and out in 5 minutes, but I wanted a quick walk through for some of the basics that I forgot about since my FIrst Mile. 3 wet signatures and you’re done.
  • Visual inspection shows all panel gaps look good, doors open/close as they should, no dents, etc. Perfect, new, yay.
  • I was asked if my Guide had informed me that the automatic tonneau on the order was not installedand I’m in the queue for the retrofit. The answer was no, in fact, I had not received this information from my guide, which was moderately frustrating.
    • Ticket has been opened so I can track in real-time
  • All-weather mats, roof racks, and SUP bars will be delivered within 1-2 weeks
  • Was told that I could in fact order a spare through my guide, because I forgot to re-add it when I soft-locked, but my guide has not been terribly helpful in this regard. Will try again.

Overall, a very pleasant and painless experience, if not a bit soggy (we got hit with a pretty gnarly downpour the moment I had arrived). Thanks to the SSF folks for being so great about everything - much appreciated.

I’ll get more pictures later, but here’s one from my office window while I wait for the rain to stop.

My guess is that they are just deactivating them so we don't do more damage to our trucks by using them since they are going to have to replace them anyway. Purely speculation. But I have never had a tonneau on my truck for the last decade so I can wait. Thanks for the pictures!! She is a beauty.

I wish they’d just do that for those of us who want the automatic cover because they’re basically doing that for manual anyway— we’re going to get it delivered with no slats and then those slats will be shipped later

So....the plot thickens indeed.

Guess which SASquatch finally got a Guide contact!?

<-------This one!

My estimated delivery is January/February 2023 however, that is the end of the good news. I've officially put my order on "hold" because I don't want to take delivery before the powered tonneau cover redesign is in production and tested.

My Guide told me it will not be in production by January/February so I'm in a "hold" status (and my guide claims I won't lose my place in line) until the new cover is in production. No timeline on that.

I figure that if we get into March and still no word, I will just switch to the manual cover (has anyone laid eyes on one of these?) but for now I'm going to be patient.

The real question is what is the difference (if any) between the retrofit and the redesign?

I think we passed each other this morning as we took delivery of our trucks, we had the yellow one a few spots back from yours. We also have the same new non functioning tonneau cover...which was also news to us (but not surprising). It will be interesting to see when it actually gets dealt with. I also didn’t notice until we had left that all our accessories weren’t included…I’m going to assume we‘re in the same 1-2wk delivery boat.

It must have been a challenge getting to the SC this morning from over the hill. I heard hwy 1 was closed and a large tree was blocking 92. Truck looks sharp...that’s the right color for HMB.

Congrats! Was that you (a couple) walking into the lot with the delivery guy (whose name escapes me) as a dude with a man-bun and a befuddled look on his face tried to decode how to operate the blue Space Truck?

It was a mess out here yesterday. Making matters worse was a brief closure of highway 1 due to traffic and a small accident here in town. We were trapped.

A driver was scheduled to pick me up in HMB at 830. He called me at 8:10 … from San Mateo, trapped on 92. Being rideless, ended up taking the eGolf over and dropping it in their lot for the day. Gave me a chance to drive back over with my wife later in the day to pick up the VW, though. Pleased to report that round-trip from HMB to the SC yielded 2.82 mi/kwh.

Hey Sasquatch--

So I'm about to be in the same boat I guess. My window was Apr-Jun but I got the "time to configure" email and the guide a few days ago. But among other things, I haven't had the chance to see one of these up close yet and wanted to see some of the colors and interiors before I settled. And I really wanted the power cover (and the camp kitchen and tent, etc.). So I'm sparring with my guide now about what happens if I just say no for now. Good to hear they told you that you could keep your place in line.

I know its heresy, but I would really be just as happy to get this in april with the power cover as now without. And as I understand it getting it now without or with the manual cover precludes adding the power cover later. Maybe they'll say something about the delayed items in the earnings call today....

Hey lostinafog,

I hear you! My Guide told me that we could put the order in a "hold" status and I can flip it back when we have new information on the tonneau cover and I told him to do that.

At this point, I'm not in a hurry to rush into a purchase just to be dealing with a whole bunch of issues. I'd rather give Rivian 4-6 months to work these issues out and take delivery when I feel more confident in the product.

If I could take delivery in April-May with a working cover and maybe some of the other issues worked out, I would be a happy camper.

It feels bitter sweet delaying delivery (I've been tracking Rivian since the LA Auto Show) but what is a few more months in the grand scheme of things, especially if that time can be used to improve the product.

Hang in there!

Yup, that was us! Glad you were still able to make it, I was thinking you were forced to take 84 or Tunitas. 2.82 mi/kWh is impressive. I’m assuming we’re going to average around 2 mi/kWh with our 20 ATs. We have a little Mini Cooper electric that gets closer to 4 mi/kWh that we’ll use for commuting and zipping around town. This is our first time being a fully EV household…we’ll see how it goes. Are you planning on keeping your e-golf?
